Squeaking Front Suspension

Featured Replies

Pain in the ####, has any body else had this or a similar noise and cured it, the only thing I can find is a thread on MK5 GTi forum (same chassis) and VW had a technical bullitin about the problem. Do Skoda have the same Bulletins issued and is this the likely culprit.

Anyone?

Could be suspension bush related. Do you only get the noise when the suspension's subjected to a purely vertical axis of travel, i.e. over a speed bump. Does speed over the object make any difference? How old's the car, and how many miles?

If you're still under warranty it could be worth going to your dealer with a copy of that PDF, and get them to investigate.

Does it happen in the rain ?

06 plate with 93k just had new shocks, only does it over speed bumps or very very bumpy roads. Worse when its cold.

Sounds just like my vrs and it's driving me round the bend. I've had a number of garages look at it and nobody can find anything wrong. This cold weather just makes it sound worse.

Exactly the same, very common problem on Golf GTi Mk5 forums, in warmer weather it goes away. Today +2 degrees and hardly any squeaks. In the cold snap we had -8 in Brum and it sounded like an old pirate ship!

I'm going to price up the new bushes from VW and get them fitted in the New Year if no one eles comes up with anything, I'll let you know how I get on.

I had exactly the same problem last year and it took the garage 3 attempts to fix. It only did it over speed bumps and only when cold. In the end they replaced the front anti-roll bar and the lower control arm bushes and that sorted it. Been fine for over a year now and fine during the cold snap too.

That's good to know, I think I'm going to get the whole wishbones (control arms replaced) due to mileage £130 for two wishbones with bushes and balljoints, these will be easy to fit rather than trying to get the old bushes out and new ones in, what I save in parts will add on in labour.

What a coincidence, my 59' plate has just started doing it as well - over speed bumps. Seems to be coming from the front offside and yes, seems worse with colder weather. Certainly a visit required to the dealer. And i thought Skoda's were meant to be reliable and well built?

That's only two of you. Not really a common fault though. On my Dad's old Sunbeam Rapier a regular squirt of brake fluid was needed to cure suspension bush noises.

I have the same problem! Creaking front suspension started in recent cold snap(only over speed bumps). I took the car to dealer last Monday only to be told it is meant to make this noise! I think vrs777 is right about control arm bushes as i sprayed some silicon spray at the offending articles - seems to have helped for now. However, with cold weather returning we will see

I had same issue.. see - as peanut18 says..

You are all not alone and it's not just older Vrs, mine is 2.0 TDI CR 2010 year and it creaks like mad, but only over speed bumps, only in the cold and usually only first in the morning.........Dealer me thinks......

Let us know how you get on, show them the PDF from VW and see what they say.

Mine started creaking this morning - need to confirm it's from front axle - heard it once going over a speed bump. As it's bloody cold, I put it down to freezing temps. Will see if it continues.

10 plate FL Octy Est. - 8K on the clock - not happy.

Not long after taking delivery of mine in August I heard creaking noise from what I thought was suspension whe I went over speed humps. I had a look round and eventually found that adjusting the bonnet hinges stopped it - well it has never done it since doing that.

During the cold weather my suspension has just started creaking (nearside only) when going other speed humps only and at a certain speed ie very slow no creaks and very fast no creaks.

Any idea what I can do to reduce this?

Never did this until the snow came.

From the very first day I had the car there was a mild creaking/rumbling sound from the front of the car.

It happened under mild acceleration from a standstill but was all gone by about 15mph. This was not over speed humps.

Took it to the dealer who managed to recreate the fault at a standstill on a lift.

Did not take them long to find the problem. It was caused by either water pipes or DSG cables( can'nt remember which!!) vibrating against the undertray which had the effect of amplifying the noise. Cured by by adjusting(bending) the clips and brackets holding the pipes or cable.

Took about 30 minutes and has never given a problem since

Mine was also squeaking over speed bumps when it was really cold. Seems to have stopped now it's warmed up a little. 2010 VRS, sounded like it was coming from the front somewhere.

This looks like the answer, after reading up on it, mines just waiting for the garage to fit me in for new bushes on the arms (I'm using super pro ones) - fingers crossed it'll sort the squeaks.

mines cleaks also over speedbumps getting mot'd this week am i looking at a fail on the arms :S

Looking forward to see if the super pro fix this, as I also need to change the bushes. Should also improve the handling a bit, don't forget to get the alignment checked after.

Just purchased first Skoda car - 2010 Octavia Estate, 1.6CR TDI, Elegance. Bought from Simpsons Skoda- Clone a few weeks ago.

Vehicle has this fault which is very annoying !!!! As it doesn`t squeak all the time. Only noticable over some speed bumps, of which there are many in Stockport.

Car Booked in for examination next Monday, fingers crossed........... Hope Simspons Deliver, as I have reccommended them to a number of people who have asked about my new car.
