Skoda website hacked?

Could it be an NTL cache infection?

Shouldn't think so... I work for the NHS, and visited the site at lunchtime from an NHS Net connection.

Besides - all was well, until I checked out the site to see what was up after reading this thread! Like lambs to the slaughter... :) No harm done like.

Shame I cant remember what the name of the trojan was! It was basically exploiting some sort of vulnerability in IE6 on WinXP. Who knows, perhaps our pap IT dept haven't been keeping things up to date :)

Doubt it but as at work it didnt happen - will try just now as I'm on NTL via the lurvely caching proxies in Oxford

Just checked again - nope it's fine still, no virus warnings, no dodgy downloads, popups or unders :D

It sounds weird but I use no anti-virus or firewall software. It slows my PC down too much. As it's only used for pleasure and not work, there is no problem really. I'll happily wipe it clean every week if I had to. Sounds weird but I can't afford to upgrade my PC at the moment and so I'm doing the best I can. I do do the odd spyware scan online, and have never found anything. Maybe I don't visit dodgy enough sites?

Are you running boradband or dialup?

Good luck then, because when you do get an infection (if you dont have already) be sure that your ISP will cut you off if your bulk sending emails etc.

For what its worth, my AV doesnt impact on my pc at all, and I am very fussy about that sort of thing as used to to play on-line games and anything that causes lag goes.

Broadband matey. No-one on my email list has an dodgy emails, can't see the problem so far. (Please don't send a virus to me, please don't)

Hmm...bit surprised you haven't been hit by various Trojans and viruses (such as Sasser)! Unless you're not running W2K/XP, or you managed to get patched *very* quickly...

Rob.

If your running broadband with no protection then good luck..your going to need it.

Just for the record, on one occaision of my reformats, I only had the XP OS install 3 minutes, and hadnt done the firewall or AV or anything else.I thought I would update the OS first as I had been having problems with XP and loading software in a certain order (dont ask how), so after updating the OS, I installed my AV and guess what....virus already and the only site I had been to was Windows Updates.

If your running a broadband con, you should really have a firewall and AV to protect you and others.

Windows XP and no, I've not patched yet. Like I said, I'll wipe the PC if I have to.

On a side note, don't you just love smarties? I had one once. Lorry hit the back of it. Twice. Wasn't diesel though.

:rubchin:

Do you have the XP firewall on - I believe it's set by default, and that does provide some primitive security which would stop a lot of the nasties. Like Andy, I've run an unprotected machine on a broadband connection outside of a firewall, and within about 3 minutes it was knackered!

Yeah, I do love smarties, though I can't find any logical explanation for it... :D

Diesels are only available as euro-imports, hence their relative rarity over here. What sort of state was it in after a lorry hit it?

Rob.

There was an article in a PC magazine a few months ago (I forget which one), where they deliberately connected to the internet (via Broadband) a new PC with no firewall or AV software installed and none of Microsoft's latest patches. They immediatley started to download updates from Microsoft.

What, they found was that there was not enough time to download and install the updates/patches before the PC was infected with viruses.

As a side note, my PC had a virus  (first in over 5 yrs) on Monday. McAfee zapped somekind of Trojan downloader (called winupdate2518564.exe or something similar) in the temp internet files folder. After several scans with McAfee, Spy-bot and Ad-awareSE nothing else was found so hopefully it's OK.

Probably do have the XP firewall still, so yeah, I do have one. Didnt think of that one.

I had a true blue RHD pulse on a 51 reg. Cracking car, loved it! It was one of the first few that merc dealers sold. I would have wanted the diesel, purely to aim for 100mpg. After the accident? My and my mum were fine, she had a little neck problem but nothing serious. As for the smart, the Tridion on drivers side was bent out slightly, rear screen smashed, rear spoiler smashed, rear boot panel scratched and the engine cover deformed. But not too bad. Wasn't worth the rebuild needed though. It needed a new Tridion and a complete strip down and rebuild. He hit me at 50mph then again at about 30mph. Shame I got no pics really.

They do seem like tough little cars - everybody I know who's had an accident in one seems to have come out pretty unscathed!

The diesel is pretty economical, but I've only ever got more than 100mpg once on a steady motorway cruise with very little wind. Normally only get about 70-80mpg round town though...ah well... :D

You NEED a firewall, be it one built into windows or a router device. Without it your machine is dead meat within a few minutes, usually...

As for antivirus, try AVG from http://www.grisoft.com - low overhead, good scanner and it's got the right price too (free for personal use, single machine).

Norton A4US is to be kept away from your machine at all times as it makes it dogslow even on the latest versions with bags of memory & CPU power available...
