should i swap my vrs for this?

Featured Replies

bit of pickle and not sure what to do???

been offered a 2002 astra coupe turbo,95k running 285hp,350lbs torque, coilovers etc.really quite fancy it,problem is the skoda's been so good to me,never let me down, has anyone had any experience of these and what are like??

cheers phil

a mate of mine has had 2 astra turbo's (not the coupe) an sri 190 and a gsi both good but the gsi had vxr turbo and other bits went like stink and sounded ace. he loved it and wished he'd never sold it.

i myself prefer the vrs as although not as quick is so much better as an all round car!

end of the day its your choice as to what you want from a car and would cost a fair bit of wedge to get that sort of power from the vrs

cheers for your reply mate, whats reliablty like mate, been hearing some bad horror stories off the net.

the turbo's aren't great hence why he went for the vxr one, other than that he never had any problems with it, although your always gonna get niggles when running more power so things are to be expected i suppose. he did pamper it, regular services and oil changes every 6k so it was well cared for.

the only real problem they had was the turbo being crap but they are now all replaced with the vxr unit anyway wich is solid

engines have been refined lots and work very well

all depends on what you need

also bear in mind all cars that have been upgraded lots will have there own issues + has it been ragged

the car only got upgraded jan just gone,on has done only 10k with the mods, all work was done by regal.

well regal are the top boys when it comes to vauxhall tuning by far so thats a very good start

has he had the rods done?????? might be worth finding out what standard rods on that engine can handle im pretty sure it 350+ but worth giving regal a call

what hassles were you getting mate??really in two minds now,i love the reliablty of the vrs,ive got bad visions of head gaskets, gearboxes, clutches going......

having come to the vrs from an astra (albeit a 1.8) i'd say keep the skoda.

ok the astra may be faster i'll admit, but the skoda is much better built and more practical, not to mention probably a lot stronger and safer.

I had a Mk4 Astra SRi before the vRS, OK not much of a performance car, but for lots of reasons one of the more dissapointing cars I've had. It feels a very "dead" drive compared to the Skoda, with little driver involvement and feedback. Check out how heavy the thing is, they are horrifically heavy for the size of car and that's what really dulls off the experience.

Sure the turbo cars will be quick, but don't be seduced by the power alone on a 10-minute test drive :D

looks like my insurance are being bugger and won't cover the astra due to the mods, looks like a no goer.oh well the search continues..............
