Fuel price stabiliser?

Saved you a job there. :)

Thanks for that. I read it in one of the papers this week (either Mail or Mirror) about how VAT increase will effect motorists, they say no change for insurance. They did not mention insurance Tax.

What do all the people here who were blaming Labour for fuel prices have to say about the current situation?

So I guess by your post Labour were doing everything correct, I did not vote for either but will say both are doing the total opposite of what the everyday person would want. Labour, (vote on Europe) never happened. Conservatives, (get rid of human rights) think Cameron has forgot that one. All are the same Manifesto not worth the ink used to print it.

Granted, last updated in October, but only Norway beats us on the price of diesel....just.

I dunno but I think the fuel duty is consistent with Labours last budget and a tactical devaluation back in 2008ish sorta takes the biscuit over the VAT, don't you think?

As to the intent of the OP, I thought the fuel price stabiliser policy was to prevent temporary oil price shocks (i.e. back when crude oil reached a short-lived high of $150 a barrel). As the current oil price is not doing that, I'm not sure exactly what a fuel stabiliser has to do with it. The increases we're seeing seem to be as a result of a conflicting government (both of them) policy.

I'm not seeing much change in people's behaviour so clearly fuel isn't expensive enough yet. You need to get used to using less of it if yo're too poor to afford it. Isn't capitalism brilliant?

No , not at all.

I've said all along that the global recession would still have happened if the conservatives had been in power (they weren't exactly campaigning for regulation of the banks) and oil prices would still have risen, as would duty.

I'm saying it would have made almost no difference to pump prices.

And all the time salaries are remaining stagnent.. Oh well - at least we can all look forward to snow on Xmas day.

Unless that gets taxed too :giggle: Maybe I shouldn't give the governemnt new ideas on raising revenue.

If the best way to get the Country moving again is by people spending more money, then why do the Goverment of the day Tax you more. The more Tax equals less to spend that just means more trouble. Or have I got it wrong.

I'm no ecconomics guru - but that was my understanding of it too..

I personally think the banks must be forced to get us out of this mess - no bonus' for the top wan... sorry - Bankers, reduce their spending and put that back into the ecconomy what they owe.

I'm not blaming the staff in the branches - they are just doing their daily jobs, but if the rest of the industrial sectors cannot afford bonus / pay increases, then why should they.

Yes - shareholders may suffer, I have a small amount of shares in large company, but if they go under then I loose my shares - This is the risk you take when investing.. Shares go up and down.
