After my Mercedes E320 CDi catastrophe and the numerous problems I suffered from it i vowed to never buy an inherently unreliable car...

I would even go so far as to say i am loathe to ever buy a "supercar" brand or any other make that has a reputation to "breakdown" - i do ok in the stock market now and then blah blah....

Anyway i digress....now onto my VRS. Yes it has had numerous problems. Rattling like a mofo, leaky doors, blowing fuses, CV joints, bushes - on a 2006 car i think this is pretty unacceptable. HOWEVER..........

I would probably buy another one....its a love/hate relationship with this car. This week I need to replace the blown rear speakers and the full aerial mast etc...

There has been days where i would have gladly set the thing on fire....but there is just something about this car man...i can't put my finger on it...

I prefer this car to my current Z4...anyday of the week (seriously). So much so i probably could not justify selling it ever, both financially or for sheer versatility. Or maybe its the PD 130 engine????

I owned an Audi with the same exact engine.....I bloody loved that car also..

I certainly would - if it were a NEW mark one vRS.

Might be worth adding a poll

I was thinking something similar the other day.

My parents old car was written off, and they were discussing what to buy etc. They asked me if I was in the same situation, what would I do. I'd be straight out buying another vRS!

In a heartbeat. My fabia is the best car i have ever owned. When i bought mine, i could only afford the cheapest on the market. I would love to get one with the right spec, in yellow. One day . . . . . . . .

Yup..... In a heartbeat

I will be looking for another one (but newer Mines a 54 reg btw)

if I ever decide to get rid of mine or kill it somehow. (Not anytime soon mind...)

I would probably buy another black one too despite the headache of keeping it

clean. I'd obviously transfer my private plate and blueflame and other nick nacks

across to the new one so it would look like the same car in effect.

That is unless I found a nice example of a SE kicking about. ;)

Just saw this post and Matts story is the same as mine.

I didn't even have 5k to spend when I bought mine and would have loved a cleaner

newer one with less mileage. Mines at 75k now and still drives very well etc

But...

It's cosmetically flawed :( and was bumped in a car park 2 days before I collected it

scraping the top of the drivers side rear wheelarch. The damage is still there to this day

the paint is split and you can see the primer beneath which has thankfully withstood the scrape.

But there is also rust developing in a few other places and some bad scratches on the

top of the rear bumper (presumably made loading a large item into the boot)

I'd rather have the whole car repainted when funds allow instead of forking out for several seperate repairs..

I'm hoping to have the money for a respray and leather retrim next year and have a

particular colour scheme in mind ;)

Our cars are like twins. Again, mine has never been perfect cosmetic wise since i`v owned it. The rear bumper has a strange scratching mark across it, about a foot and a half wide. The passenger rear quarter has a bit of de lamination on the paint, prob due to bird **** or something being left on it for ages. The front is stone chipped, but the black hides it well, or at least better than my mates race blue one does. Its also done mega miles (148,962 to be exact). BUT, i`d really struggle to get rid as sad as it sounds. As far as the engine and that go, its solid, and rarely misses a beat.

On top of all this, i bought it, without driving it, in a pub car park. The things we do when were young. However, like i say, its been the best car i have owned, and it`d take a lot to beat it.

You and I are more similar than you'd realise too. :D

I was a bus driver for a few years back in my early twenties.

Drove for Stagecoach East London, running out of Bow Garage.

Did Routes 8, Bow to Victoria, 25, Oxford Circus to Ilford.,

26 Hackney Wick to Waterloo Station, 277, Leamouth to Highbury Corner

and D7 Mile end to Poplar via Isle of Dogs. Bl00dy hated it for 3 and a half years

I forgot to mention faded spoiler, possible perforation on passenger rear door :o

bonnet looks like someones fired rock salt out of a shotgun at it,

seatbelt clip must have been trapped in the door so damage there too.

The paint has never been properly cared for and is

frankly a lost cause hence the plan to respray.

i work for stagecoach east london lol

I certainly would. But it'd be a new Black one. With Xenons, Heated Seats and Cruise....

And it needs a bigger turbo and FMIC as standard :-)

The simple answer is I don't know.

If I'd only owed my vRS for 1 year or 18 months, then yes I would buy another. However I've had mine for just over 4 years (from Sept 06) and I'm used to it. I think If I bought another mk 1 it would be far too familiar. I'd probably try and buy an blue SE as there are a few changes to it.

The trouble is if I don't buy another vRS, I don't know what buy. 180 bhp of the new vRS is nice, but I don't know how I'd miss the torque and economy of my Mk1, also I have not driven an automatic for 10 years so, I don't know how I would get used to it. If Skoda had put a 2.0l 140bhp CR diesel in with a manual box, (like the Ibiza Mk5 FR) then I may go for that.

Having got one, I would defiantly not buy another black car again. There is too much cleaning you have to do to it.

If I hadn't needed DSG I'd still have it, so excepting that, yes.

I would in the same circumstances, however, my children are getting older and I'm going to need something a little bigger when I change mine. I'll probably go to a Golf, but it'll definitely be a TDI.

yes

that is all.

I would buy a mk1 fabia (brand new) again no doubt about it.

My vrs has been the best car I've owned even over the brand new cars I've had

Same same I traded in my Lemon Yellow VRS for the vRS SE, I miss my lemon, thinking of a respray to Yellow, not got the money though emoticon-0106-crying.gif

National

Without a shadow of doubt---yes !!

Had nothing but problems with my fabia so far...

Think i brought a right Lemon :giggle:

Funnily enough I was thinking the same thing today. I've had my Fabia over 6 months now, today I was behind a pearlescent red Mazda 3 identical to my previous car (bought from new and was newer than my Fabia when I sold it). The mazda looked lovely, its got a great interior, it was great to drive, it probably looks more "upmarket" than the Fabia, and I loved that car so much. Would I swap it back? No. Well not unless is was a 3 MPS and fuel wasnt an issue, but it is an issue!

I used to own a Clio 172 a few years back, that was a great car too but very cheap inside, I prefer my fabia to that.

I love the Furby, it puts a smile on my face everyday, however, I wish the seats weren't grey and I wish the door seals didnt leak! Cant wait to get it mapped in the future, I will be very happy with 180 bhp and 50(ish) mpg. Love the fact it's "just a Skoda", I'm converted

Went down to Ingram Skoda in Ayr with a view to trading mine in for a race blue '07 - however, it was sold by the time I got there - so yes!

My Lupo GTi would probably just edge it as my favourite car I've owned but the vRS is a more practical proposition (easier to get parts, tyres etc.).

I do love the PD130 engine and the gearbox - don't love the Swedish sauna look due to condensation.

Thinking of getting a MKV Golf GTi next year but possibly too common...

Yes.....We did...a Mk 2 vRS

I woyuld definately.

As a mix of practicality, pace & economy and easy to drive I dont think there are other cars you could get for £11k.

Only reason i got rid was due to lack of space.

I wouldnt have one as a second 'city' car though. Overpowered IMO for that.

Having left My Fabia to get a Focus ST (awesome car)... I can honestly say yes I would in a heartbeat :) in fact im waiting delivery of a MK II vRS :D

If you'd asked me this in the Summer I'd have voted "yes" - the 2004vRS I had from new was the best car I'd ever owned and the car I'd kept the longest (in terms of daily driver).

However I've just voted "no" since the SE replacement is the second worst car I've ever owned and I'm not going to buy another Fabia - though might just be tempted by a Yeti...

I guess for me it's a yes.

I've now had 2 x Mk1 Octavia vRS's, and 2 x Mk1 Fabia vRS's

:)
