New Yeti Elegance 2.0L 170hp Ordered

Featured Replies

Up to recently you would occasionally find me in the Octavia section of this forum. My wife and I owned a 1.8TSI DSG L&K Octavia estate (less than 1 year old) and a 2.5 year old Fabia 3, 1.9TDI. We decided to downsize to 1 car as the Fabia had only done 8700 miles in 2.5 years and rarely if ever were both cars away from base at the same time. The Fabia is a bit small for our our purposes and the beautiful L&K Octavia not to my Wife's taste - with particular respect to the automatic. I loved the DSG but she prefers gears and found the interlocking between foot brake park/neutral etc too confusing. In any case I was a bit iffy about petrol and consumption - albeit very good indeed at 36.9mpg over its 8700 miles.

So we have decided to trade them both in against a Yeti. The Yeti being the car that we both like a lot and which we nearly bought instead of the L&K Octavia (hindsight is lovely). Last week I was looking (on screen) at a very nice Yeti 170hp elegance demonstrator which was being advertised at a higher price than new. However a firm enquiry brought the price down somewhat. The same enquiry established that I could order a brand new one for only £450 more than the 1 year old demonstrator so I thought that patience, and 11 plates and a new vehicle would be well worth that additional £450. In the end I managed to secure a similar albeit slightly more costly deal with my local dealer. I considered the slight increase being worth dealing locally rather than with someone (who was very helpful) about 130 miles away.

It was lucky that I first viewed that on line Yeti and made enquiries because it was pointed out to me that any orders placed after 31 December would be subject to both the VAT increase and an overall Skoda increase (2% ??) saving me about £1000. Maybe sales pressure but I suspect true - both dealers said the same.

So yesterday I placed an order for a 170hp diesel Yeti Elegance in Muscovado with Gobi sand trim. I also ordered on line via info on this forum the wood effect dashboard trim. That will arrive soon and will adorn the wall in front of my desk for the four to six (??) months that it takes the Yeti to arrive. I have ordered spare wheel. park assist and tyre pressure monitor as extras. I decided on the 170hp rather than the 140hp so as to match the power of the 1.8TSI Octavia which I had got used to. I don't drive fast but I still enjoyed all that power at my fingertips - especially for enhancing overtaking. I decided against the DSG version as my wife was not keen and on the diesel version it lowers the economy slightly - according to the written specs. I decided against the supagard treatment dealer offer and I will give it similar treatment myself at considerably less expense. My refusal of this and gap insurance made the sales lady look somewhat crestfallen - less commission I suspect. I will get gap insurance but on my terms. So - the Octavia has gone and we will be running around in a quite adequate very perky Fabia 3, 1.9TDI until we have to sell that on arrival of the Yeti.

So from now onwards my attention on this forum will be on this side of the fence rather than the Octavia section. My faith in Skoda is such that we never even discussed any other make of vehicle at any stage of our reckoning.

Welcome to the club (the waiting for a CR170 Yeti that is!)

With the increase in production starting from January you may find that your Yeti arrives a little sooner than you think, keep your fingers crossed.

I guess there must be a lot of commission on the gap insurance & Supaguard, my dealer pushed very hard on that also.

Good choice the 170 Elegance is brilliant. I haven't really opened mine up yet in fact I found keeping below 2500 rpm during the running in period equated very closely to my normal driving style any way.

A long wait ahead but surprising how quickly the weeks tick by.

I doubt that you will be disappointed.

I doubt you will be disappointed either.

My almost 5 months seemed forever, but it has been worth the wait.

I went for the DSG and will have the car remapped next month.

I have pretty much run mine in now, and much of that felt like idling around London. I couldn't open her up if I'd wanted too! The run up here to Scotland comprised just under half the running in crusing at around 2000rpm where possible. Ok it wasn't possible going through Oxfordshire north on the M40 on Sunday as there was only one lane for 'normal' vehicles and the other snow covered lane for us brave 4x4 users :-)

Welcome - good choice: I have virtually the same (colour, trim, engine etc) on order since 18 August but no build date yet!

Well done! Enjoy your 170 when it arrives!

hmmm - looks as if my 6 month estimate might be in the right field (or right farm !!)

When I got my Land Rover they were £250 each. I got both for £200. It can be a real money maker.

Well my mine's on its way now - I think(hope) things will speed up in the new year? Not every potential Yeti owner will be prepared to wait....

Diesels are suffering more delays than petrol i understand.

I'm still delighted with what I've ordered and looking for ward to it with great anticipation - if only I could get some sense out of SUK's 'Customer' Services

Possibly but I'd be very disappointed if the doubling of production lines in January, reported elsewhere, doesn't significantly reduce the lead time, of course this could be famous last words!

Mine ordered 24th September, provisonal build week 7/8, delivery expected mid March (actual build week of course not known until two weeks beforehand) I hope for a slight improvement based on my comment above which will be just about right to get one of the first 11 plate's - I'm not a snob but at least there will be something to show for all this waiting

If it comes a little early the dealer will hold it for the new plate on 1st December.

Ours waited for two/three weeks for it's 60 plate... rather than have the old reg just after collecting it.

Some people it bothers, others it doesn't. But it'll be worth more later with the later reg and we had a 60 plate lined up for ours...

Absolutely, if it arrives a little early (before 1st March, I assume your 1st December is a typo!) I'm happy to wait, with 5 months under my belt another week or two will not hurt . The majority of cars are worth significantly more depending on the plate, not that I'm looking to sell of course

My only concern is that I understand that the dealer has to register the car within 10 working days after they take delivery for any cars delivered after 1st January 2011 in order for Skoda to honour 17.5% VAT hold. In practice the dealer gets the 2.5% back from Skoda rather than it coming from the customer - I guess Skoda are insisting on this to stop stealers buying up large quantities of cars before the VAT change and flogging them off several months after and pocketing the difference in VAT (not sure precisely how that works but I think that's the gist).

The only people this may affect are the very few of us due to take delivery mid Feb-ish, if the car is delivered before the middle of Feb the dealer may not be able to hold it until 1st March. Unless my car is brought forward considerably I do not think this will be an issue for me. If it turns out to be the case then I feel a SUK customer services call coming on!

If it comes a little early the dealer will hold it for the new plate on 1st December.

I presume you mean 1st of September? Reg numbers change the 1st of March and 1st of September only. emoticon-0136-giggle.gif
