front screen washer jet direction

Featured Replies

My front screen washer jets are not pointed correctly in order for the water to hit the sceen efficiently. I tried the time honoured needle in the jets to move them and they don't want to move. Am I missing something here?

+1. Unless I'm doing 70, most of the water goes over the top of the windscreen.

The newer Octavia has fan nozzle washers at the front. A needle will damage them as there is not a simple round hole AFAIK. Each spray assembly does swivel up and down, but I found it difficult to get a spray hitting the upper part of the windscreen as a lot just goes over the roof. I settled on just having the middle of the screen wetted.

The rear screen does have conventonal jets, but they seem to be largely obstructed by the wiper arm, so accept anything hitting the middle of the screen.

The square block that contains the two nozzles moves up and down. It's quite stiff and quite difficult to get right.

the rear is not adjustable. you can clean the nozzles by flipping up the cover of the wiper arm base and then the nozzle head lifts out so you can clean it.

True, on mine half of it goes to waste but sometimes it does hit it properly. Something the way nozzles move is wierd.

There is a ridge on the front jets just give that a push up or down to alter the direction, as for the back its definitely is adjustable on mine using a needle or pin, its hard to get them spraying in a decent position though!

I think you'll find that the rear wash is designed to spray water along the length of the rear wiper arm before it wipes. this is so all the wiper is covered in water before it sweeps

Yes, but I'd rather the spray hit the glass rather than the arm.emoticon-0145-shake.gif

To be honest you should consider yourself lucky to get any feckin' water at all!

On my 2nd Octavia hatch and after 2500 miles the rear washer jets are blocked. Just debating whether there is any point bothering to clear them. In 40k miles in the last one the only time the rear jets works was after I had cleaned them and was getting the alignment right. Whenever I went to use them in anger - nothing! In anything like dirty wet weather the jet just became encased in mud!

I hope Skoda sort this out for Octavia III :wonder:
