2nd Hand Vrs

Featured Replies

My VRS has been up for sale now for 2 weeks and not one phone call from anybody apart from the usual canvassers.

It's only 8 months old and I thought that

Just looked on Parkers.co.uk...

Valuation for: Skoda Octavia 1.8T RS 5d Hatchback (10k miles)

Year/Reg: 2002/52

Original Price:

It's a buyers market for second hand cars. Prices are rock bottom for pretty much any car.

That may be so, but Parker's are extracting the urine with that valuation :)

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news but I ordered a new one on Monday (standard + metallic) for a shade over 14K, from a main dealer - they were advertising unreg from

That was pretty much my point too - whilst prices for used cars are very low at the moment, I'd imagine that someone "in the know" would stump up more for a vRS.

Last time I looked on autotrader, I think the cheapest vRS I saw was about

Just visited a skoda dealer in Sidcup they have an 02 reg Silver RS for

Pretty much the same recently at my local dealer (see above!) - I don't think it exactly "flew off the shelves" as 13.5 is maybe a tad on the high side.

I think they took a deposit on it, but last time I was there it was still sitting in the back car park looking lonely and unloved :(

As a private sale, you have to be guided by dealers' used prices and set your price accordingly.

Similar situation with my Impreza where the private to dealer price gap was

Just visited Autotrader, on a national search there are 17 add's showing at present, this is one of them.

All 17 in the autotrader are dealer cars, no private sales?

Phil.

The main point being missed here , I think , is that if someone is going to pay 12-13K on a second hand car , then in all probability they are going to want finance on it , and also if you are spending that much money I think most people will look to dealers .

The other point I want to make is that there is VAT charged on a new car , so the vRS starts life at

On the bright side, if you're buying a second hand car, then you're likely to get a nearly-new bargain. Still, there's nothing like being the first owner of a car... A bit like making love to a virgin :D

Still, it's a worrying thought that if I wanted to trade mine in for the rumoured "super vRS", I'd be getting a pretty poor price for a damn good motor.

I spent quite a while looking around at the prices that were being advertised by the dealers and the supermarkets before setting my price. The cheapest dealer seemed to be Motorpoint at

Depreciation on the vRS started off supprisingly well due to supply demand. Still I think even now its better than some other performance cars, subaru imprezza's spring to mind. These loose in 12 months what the RS does in 24. I lost 50% on my previous car when I P/X'd for the RS (P Reg Merc C180). You tend to loose a fair chunk in the 1st year, then it kind of slows down.

I was going to buy a one year old RS but realised that the finance on a second hand one over eg 3 years was more expensive than financing a brand new one over 4 - that could be a factor - especially as I got my new one for

Just to add to the confusion, I picked up an RS 2002 (51 plate) on 8th April, 1 owner 19600 miles in red for 11200 at a Skoda main dealer in Sedgefield & that was delivered to preston on a transporter with 6 months road licence. It was adverised in the Autotrader.

Hmm, guess that makes mine fairly worthless then :(

Oh well, better keep it and mod the hell out of it :D

Sorry uptheposh but I would not pay more than

Ahhh, Sedgefield Motors.....

I had a look at that car on the day i was blanked by the ignorant tw*t that calls himself a salesman there. Looked like a nice motor, i was tempted myself but really wanted a Brand New one.

Good luck with it :)

If you're buying a new car, you have to be prepared to keep it for at least 4 years. If you only want to keep a car for 12-24 months, then second hand is a much better choice, simply because the depreciation on almost any new car is near vertical.
