Which H7 bulbs for the Fabia?

Featured Replies

So, I'm looking into changing my stock H7 bulbs to something more powerful.

I do a lot of night driving, and my greatest annoyance is the short distance my driving light lights up when I'm on a poorly lit motorway with incoming traffic, so I can't use the long beams.

Secondly, I'd like some more brightness (whiter).

Of what I could read around on the net, the Osram Night Breaker plus are whiter, and will light up up to 35m more than stock bulbs, but also that results vary, depending on the car. So that's why I'd like to ask some Fabia mk1-owners - which one is better? :-)

Check this...Put my philips ones in yesterday

Well, how are they on the road? :-)

Pretty good actually. Give a much brighter light than standard and look more like a standard xenon and still road legal

Philips will last longer. Even though NBP say they last longer than NB the pack still says half the lifetime of a standard bulb. I'd probably go Philips Xtreme.

How is your beam pattern are you sure the beam is adjusted properly? Is the level adjuster set to 0?

I've found the Halfords Extreme Brilliance ones to be surprisingly good actually. They usually have a buy one get one free deal on those too.

I'm sure I read in one bulb test that standard Bosch ones named "Pure Light" were very good and beat both Osram and Philips. The tests were done by Consumers' Association (who publish Which? magazine) with H7 bulbs and was published March 2010 .

Out of the two people have mentioned I would probably go for the 100% Philips ones, rather than NightBreakers.

Osram All weather H7 55w. Gives a faint yellow tint, brilliant for the weather conditions atm. if you find a set let me know.

Otherwise, I was debating between Philips Xtreme and Ring '110%' or something..

to put my 2 cents here;

as far as going brighter think of temperature also, you dont want pure white(4000K) or anything above it, the whiter the light, the more lumens you have to push to be as bright, look for compressed halogen, they are the most effective light bulbs and dont go over 100watts or you´ll kill the wires (they´re very thin)

also bare in mind the temperature that will reflect best in the conditions you drive

personaly i went with gold yellow halogen bulbs 75watts link: http://www.amazon.com/dp/B001M9YJFK/ref=asc_df_B001M9YJFK1375254?smid=ATVPDKIKX0DER&tag=pg-54-01-20&linkCode=asn&creative=395093&creativeASIN=B001M9YJFK

good for low visibility conditions

Thanks for the reply's everyone - Cepheuz - are those lamps drawing 75w road legal? I don't think they are here in Denmark.

I think I'll go for the Philips ones as they are easy to obtain here. But I can see a small confusion about f "X-xtreme Power" which should give 80% more light, and then some new "X-treme Vision" which should give 100% more light.

On Philips' Danish and US site, only X-treme Power are available, while X-treme Vision are available in the UK. site. ChrispyVRS - do you have the X-treme Vision fitted on your car?

And yeah, they lamps are well-adjusted - I just tend to drive fast :-)

here is not regulated, but it is a self imposed rule cus i hate people with no consern of other flashing light that are to bright, using always the high beam that temporarily blind you and may cause accidents, so yes, they should be legal in denmark (might want to check)

one thing i dont like is the claims of being 80% 100% more bright, most bulb you will only see a slight diference, since compressed halogen bulb are more eficient than incandecent (stock phillips are compressed halogen) they need less power to shine brighter, now a 37% increase in power gives 37% more light (kinda) but there must be some lost in the glass coating to make it the color you project(cus you´re filtering the light spectrum to only one hue) but the gold coating seems very flimsy and the light projected in that color is more visible anyways on all conditions, so it kinda evens out.

end result, i see good, even on rain, mist, or just road with little or now ilumination.

I agree completely,

To add to this, here is a question for the viewers:

When do you most need the lighting - in crystal clear nights or when its rain/fog/snow? It doesn't matter how often that occurs, its the fact that all weather condition lighting (more yellow tint) will give you better visibility to the roads in adverse conditions (when you need it most).

However, whiter lights reflect road marking/signs better. Where I normally drive, the quality of markings on roads and signs has been deteriorating due to attempts to fix pot holes etc, they "forget" to paint markings on again.
