No Hot air in my Fabia during cold weather

Featured Replies

Yes, yet ANOTHER topic started by me, that's how broken my Fabia is...

When I got the car I THOUGHT i had hot air warming the car even in winter. This winter I had to drive with gloves and stuff on because no hot air unless the engine is warmed up. In the cold weather the engine never warmed up and themp sensor stayed at 0 only rising when in traffic.

My question is: is there some independent heating element for intake air or is it heated solely from the heat of the engine coolant system?

you need a new water temperature sensor... around £30 from Skoda

oh and cabin heat only comes from the engine coolant being hot....

as it uses a heater matrix run off the coolant pipes

Sounds like the engine thermostat to me.

When it's a bit warmer (above 0 deg C) the temp sensor does pick up on it and the engine heats up a bit and so does the air coming into cabin. During temperatures of +10 deg C the engine warms up to normal no probs. It's just in the really cold weather, it doesn't warm up... is that the sensor being faulty?

What's the difference between engine thermostat and the water cooling sensor?

Also, not sure if I understand why the sensor would show the warming of the engine in hot weather but not in the cold weather...

The thermostat is a mechanical valve that remains closed until the engine warms up a bit then opens slowly to allow the coolant to circulate, this helps to get the engine up to operating temperature. If yours is stuck in the fully open state cold water will be circulating around the engine at start up and will take an age to warm up in this weather. Apart from preventing the heater working a cold engine will wear prematurely. The temp sensor is an electronic device (thermistor) and only shows the current water temperature.
