New Year Track Days

Featured Replies

Am thinking of graduating from airfields to actual race tracks for a couple of track days early this year (when i get back to having a spare set of tyres & wheels ready for the abuse!)

Club MSV seem to be reasonably priced for days at Oulton and Cadwell (although Brand Hatch still seems a bit expensive) and their "Novice Only" days for people who've done less than 3 trackdays are cheaper still.

Anybody fancy a day at either of the above?

Am thinking Cadwell on Sunday 23rd of Jan (£109)

or Oulton Park on Tuesady 25th Jan (£119)

or the Novice days are Cadwell Saturday February 5th (£89) - a full day one of Britains trickiest tracks for under 90 quid!!!

Oulton on Wednesday 9th Feb (£119)

or back at Cadwell on Friday 11th Feb (£99)

Sadly for me, the extra cost of getting to Cadwell, makes the local airfield days seem quite attractive. Although £89 ain't bad at all really, on 5th Feb. I could consider that. What does "novice" entail as would be more interested if it was a lot more road going cars, and not trackday nutters :D Sorry, just seen the 3 days thing - Well, I've probably only done 3 or less full trackdays - anglesey in 2004 and couple of airfield days.

yeah it's a fecking long way for me from here, so for you Jase it'd be a seriosuly loooong day!

yeah i'm attracted to the novice only days too. as you say more people with sensible cars and not loads of 911 GT3RS overtaking you every 4 seconds (6 or 7 in your case!)

I'm not sure how exactly MSV would go about proving you've done over a certain number of trackdays though?!

300 miles! ONE way :D

The only good thing is, if I was allowed... I could turn it into a weekend of visiting the relations in Leicester as I pretty much have to drive through there to get to Cadwell. Would only be 170 miles return if I was there. No way could I drive 600 miles AND a track day lol.

Being from North Wales, I will be visiting Anglesey quite a few times this year.

Also hoping for another Castle Combe in the spring. Any plans for this year Jase?

you girl! :)

I've always liked the look of Angelsey. Make sure you make me aware when you are heading that way Jon

I am going to Oulton Park on the 29th Jan. This is with Javelin, very well organised days from what I have heard. £109 too

http://www.javelintrackdays.co.uk/trackday/index.php?option=com_virtuemart&page=shop.browse&category_id=196itemid&vmcchk=1&Itemid=1 - there is also a list of cars to see who is going.

I am driving up on the Friday, and staying at a Travelodge for £23.50.

Any one fancy this?! Would be good to have a couple of us there!

Si.

I could be in Si

Oulton is top of my circuit wish list

I'll have to try to make sure i have some spare rims by then

you're not on the list though si :p although there is an Octy on there

Yeh, not appeared on the list yet, I'm guessing its due to me booking on the weekend, and its a Bank Holiday today, so no manual fingers to put the data in!

wel, oulton is 70 miles closer for me, but think I would also have to go for travelodge option if doing it.

Do it Jason :)

The Travelodge I am staying in is at Middlewich, about 20 mins from the circuit.

Also does anyone know what the situation is with taking a different car to the day, if different to the one booked? My friend wants to come along too, but may end up having to drive his other car.

I will indeed Cliff.

I's give Javelin a call buy I can't see it being too much of an issue Si.

I mean as long as it passses a sound test I guess it doesn't actually matter what the vehicle is.

If i was in a position to tralier a track car to a day and it went pop for some reason i'd be mightily annoyed if they didn;t let me continue the rest of the day using the tow car :)

I rang them this morning, very helpful actually. Absolutely no problem in turning up and it being a different car, its just to give others an idea of what cars are showing up. Passengers are also not an issue, just pay the fiver and jump in with whoever you want to.

Very tempted by Oulton Park on 29th!

A bit off topic, but you don't know Jon Dobson, or Andrei Burton do you?

I dropped MSV an email asking the question about how they work out novices from non novices :

We ask all drivers who book a novice event to answer some questions related to their previous circuit driving experience (number of previous events, driver confidence, etc). If it is clear on the day that they have not told the truth when booking then we bring people into the pit lane for a conversation and in some cases remove them from the event if they have clearly more experience than the average novice. Also we stipulate that you cannot use a race car on a novice only event.

Clearly if their instructors think that your skill exceeds a certain level you're classed as too good to be a novice!

Turn up Jase and act rubbish! :D

I've stuck myself down as Intermediate, as although I have not done a full track day before, I've had plenty of time out on track at various circuits. So I don't deem myself to be a 'novice' and not really have a clue how to drive out on track. I reckon that's the safe bet.

Jon/cliff I'm doing angelsey on the 30th. Tis only 60 quid. Was going to give it a break over winter but at 60 quid for the full track couldn't resist

for those thinking novice days be careful. I think they lay cones and the traffic will be incredibly slow. I prefer the odd gt3 or mad kit car tear arising past!

any suggestions for a good day dont mind travelling ive got a wagon, im wanting to take the estelle on one it will be mot'd unsure of if ill have spare brass to tax it...no trackday experience but done sprinting and hillclimbing and raced karts age 13-16 im 26 now though lol!

Anyone coming then?! There is now another Fabia vRS on the list, not sure if its anyone on here though. I have just booked myself a garage for the day to park in just in case its peeing down with rain! Can go splits on a garage if anyone's coming.

So tempted - just need to get my car sorted out a bit first (blowing exhaust and doesn't start first time every time) but hopefully I can do that at the weekend...

And yes, I know both those guys! Trials bike connections... Why do you ask? (Slightly spooked :giggle: )

Money is tighter than i realised this month Si so I may have to wait until February now :(

However i know Oulton is a proper race track but 50 cars and still taking bookings seems like a very large number!

I used to ride a bit of trials myself (not very good mind! still got the old Pashley 26mhz frame in the garage), met Jon at uni in Loughborough, used to go riding all the time up there with him. As for Andrei, my mate rides all the time with him down here. I took the lazy option of downhill bikes haha.

No worries - I too am a bit surprised at the number of cars being signed up for the day. Javelin days are meant to be very well run, so we shall see how it goes I guess!

I also want to know if Briskoda are going back to Combe again for the spring action day. Anyone?
