dump valve on vrs ?

Featured Replies

Anyone out there got a dump valve fitted to fabia vrs ?

Word of advice mate, there's a lot of stuck up pricks on here who will flame you badly for mentioning this. Diesels work differently to petrols and don't require a DV, it's actually a disadvantage to have one apparently. I don't know the exact technicalities behind it but yeah you don't need one at all.

My mates just got one for his but he's not fitted it yet so will find out when he gets it. And as vas turbo says they aren't like a lot on here. But if they were cheaper I'd defo have one

thanks, i have been told that it is a disadvantage by two garages but had no explanation.... they said just dont bother with it.

Main problem with a DV on these engines is how the MAF sensor is placed. When the DV releases the pressure its is mostly after the MAF sensor has made its calculations. Therefore you end up with a very rich mixture if you accelerate again and until the turbo spools and builds the pressure back up, as the air the MAF sensor thinks is there is has been released out of the valve. (this is a very crude explanation, but its the basic principle)

In reality you could probably get the dump valve fluttering sound by fitting one, but its not going to do anything performance wise, it may actually suffer from it.

End of the day, if your not after a performance increase, and you like the sound. Its no different from a exhaust backbox mod. Makes no difference to performance just noise.

Of course most other diesel owners in the know will slate it.

I personally point and laugh if I hear one.

Keep with a DV.

I can tell you why you shouldn't fit a dump valve.

As you may or may not know already, a diverter valve (DV) dumps boost pressure from the turbo back into the intake system to be recirculated. A dump valve straight to atmosphere.

The problem lies with the engine management system. Essentially, the engine management system accounts for all the air entering into the system using the MAF. When some of this air goes missing, i.e. dump valve. The ECU has a hissy fit as less air is getting into the engine than has been accounted for. This results in reduced boost pressure, fuel ratio, etc.... and boost = power! That's the simple answer. :-)

Just get that. 59p off the app store if you have a iphone/ipod touch :) Its pretty good to be fair.

I had one on my fabia vrs and i loved it

The way that diesels work, a dump valve will not do anything at all if you fit one. There is a good explanation here: TDIClub FAQ - Blow-off valves or BOV or similar The rest of the FAQ is very useful as well.

You can fit an electronic operated dump valve, this will produce the sound of one but will not do anything to the performance of the car. I have even heard they actually decrease performance slightly when gear changing, and could damage the turbo, as it dumps more pressure than it needs to. This is what an electronic one will sound like:

Hi

I have to say that there are LOADS of people on here that will say no

Also laods of garages including where I worked that will say no

To tell you the truth I had one for my car

Why????

Because it sounded absolutely fantastic

I did not want for for BHP gains , or because you got any other benifit that it sounded FANTASTIC

So come on guys come on and flame me , just like what I have had the other dozens of times I have answered diesel dump valves

I have heard them and loved them

It will give if anything the slightest increae of BHP gains , that is because it slightly overfuells , so yes

But wether it will damage anything

If done correctly No it wont

Is it worth it , if you want the dump valve sound , YES without a doubt YES

If you want one , do it and dont listen to people that will talk you out of it

Forge did a stunning one , and that was the one I had , but they stopped doing them

But 100% a definate from me

The good thing about the Forge one was that you could add a switch in it too , so if you was taking granny to the train station you could be quiet LOL

Oh I wish I had put mine on :(

Sarah

Aren't the ones from forge like £400 with fitting?

Slightly harsh if i may say so !!

To the OP, at the end of the day it's your choice, obviously a lot of people say it's a no no, but it's your choice.

You have a confessed "200bhp" car, that was once able to run 253bhp....hardly an excuse :D

/\ still enough though :D its no slug

Tbh. With a miltek and decat etc. You can hear a flutter and whine sound.

Never heard the forge dump though? And vids?

At which point did i say it was like a DV? :wonder:

I meant that you can get a nice sound from a decent exhaust system. Nothing like a DV, but can still hear the turbo flutter which is the sound i like

I believe VRS TURBO had a video on his thread of his exhaust.

TBH

THE best noise you can add to a vRS donkey diseasal is a Hybrid Turbo

THE END!!!!!!

In my opinion that sounds crap. I've just done a mufflrectomy n it sounds so much better
