Fabia vRS Jabba remapping + insurance

Featured Replies

(Transferred from another thread)

Apologies in advance if this question has been done to death already - are there different "grades" of JabbaSport remapping for the Fabia vRS? - their website is silent on the matter and I can't find much searching here apart from http://www.briskoda.net/forums/showthread.php?t=18325 which suggests around 180bhp.

Assuming I leave everything else standard (for warranty reasons - and yes, the dealer who sold me the car implied they turn a blind eye to remapping) what are the figures I should be quoting to my insurance broker to see what the implications might be?

Or do you think they'll just accept "remapping" (which I doubt).

AFAIK You're looking at figures of around 180-185 Bhp with no other mods.

So what exactly do we ask the insurance company?

"How much extra will you charge me after a software upgrade / remap from 130bhp to 180bhp (38%)?"

What is the car is more than 130bhp now? Do you have to provide any evidence after the remap of the final output power? I can't imagine you can find out the power without putting the car on a rolling road and I can see an insurance assessor doing that to see if it's 165 or 180 bhp...

What's the deal? Do we have to about powers and percentages to the insurance company or is it enough just to say "remap"?

If people could mention in this thread what the asked/told their insurance company and how much extra they paid (in percentage terms) that would be great!!

Regardless of who remaps your car, you will either get a Dyno print-out, or if not they will state the expected power output. Whichever figure you have is the one you use.

When you call the Insurance Co, tell them the car is to be re-mapped. One of the following will then happen.

1. They will refuse cover for a remap. In this case you either leave it standard or find another Ins Co.

2. They say it's fine, and might ask for anything from a

Seems reasonable to me ;)

As it happens I am hoping to get back to 5 years without a claim (not taking into account I have protected NCB anyway right now with my current insurers). Once I'm back up there in a year from now, all going well, it should make things a little easier again.

In addition I have a Dutch European license, which excludes me from some policies by default. When my license needs renewing I will probably end up having to get a UK one though...
