best car seat for my vrs

Featured Replies

just thought i would ask the question, my little girl is coming up to 5 months old soon.. and i know in a few months i will need to change the car seat.

does anyone know what is the best one for the vrs

cheers Ant

having got one at 3 years old and another at 4 months I'd have to say maxi cosi seats are superb in my octavia vrs

we have a cabriofix and priorifix, and have a rodi xr waiting in the loft for when they all move up a size

not much spare space in the front when they are fitted but they are well made and most importantly very safe.

Also if you get them in black reflection they go surprisingly well with the standard vrs interior

go to halfords and test some of them if you are unsure

I would say that you should try and find one with as thin a profile as you can because with our one I find there is very little space for our daughter to get in and out of to the front and above. Going to try and get something thinner (and not pink ;)) now our little one is not so little.

To be honest unless anyone knows differently here, I'd go to somewhere like halfords and try different ones (brands) they are all good (by law) but it depends on the fit in the car. try and to speak to someone with a brain (theres usually at least 1/2 per store) as it will help lots. Avoid the crap they are running with stupid amounts off and huge displays of. They barely safe in anything! I know this cos i used to be a trained fitter by halfords themselves. Can't ever record fitting one in a fab though :(

Andrew

EDIT: If your buying direct from halfords you can literally special order maxi cosi and recaro's in any colour.

I have a maxi cosy tobi and it's fantastic in the furbi but it's a personal thing really

Have a peek at a few the tobi comes in snow and suit the furbi 

Second vote here for maxi cosi. They have a new range out just at mothercare which we just bought one of and really happy with it, fits spot on, requires no base and looks as good as a baby seat can really.

I use to work for Halfords and was one of the trained fitters. I have got 2 kids (one's 7 and the other is 4) with a 3rd on the way in July. We used a Britax Eclipse - which does from birth to about 2-3 years old (it fits bothe rearward and forward fitting using the seat belt.) Then moved onto a Britax Evolva 1-2-3 from 3-6 years old. My 7 year old is now in one of the booster seat with the back.

However - if your budget can stretch to it - buy the MaxiCosi FamilyFix system. You buy 1 Isofix base and then there is a baby carrier section that fits rearward facing upto between 9-12 months. Then buy the forward facing seat that last from 9 month to 4 years. Total cost is about £450 for the base and the 2 seats. I'll be buying one when my new addition shows up.

We used my Fabia to test fit all the car seat when they came into the branch to give everyone a chance at fitting them before the customers got to buy any of the new models. The Maxicosi system was the best fitting seat I have ever fitted to the Fabia!

Hope that helps!

There ya go :p We did ours in a Freelander - plently of space  used to hate fitting in 3 doors :(

Britax Evolva was/is a really good seat tbh(When fitted correctly - with big hands it's hard to feed the belt through!), but I also loved the recaro young sport with the rubber coated tensioners to maintain seatbelt tension.

As for MaxiCosi (and I'm sure Polo6n1600i will agree) the priori / xp / fix is the most versatile and sought after seat. Especially with the Priori xp with a built in belt tensioner makes it easier for weaker people (mothers) to get a solid fit.

Andrew

Absolutely - the pretensioner setup on the Priory is the Dogs *******s - whoever designed that needs a medal! We sold more of them than any other seat!

The Family fix just goes a stage better!

IMHO, once the kid's out of a rear-facing seat ISOFIX isn't worth the extra cost as the seat stays in the car all the time. So as your little one's already been in a rear-facing seat, I wouldn't bother once she's ready for a front-facer. Five months sounds a bit early, though. I don't think ours was in one until 9 months, and even then the lady at Mothercare was dubious despite the fact she could sit up straight no problems (my daughter, not the shop assistant! :) )

Why do I say not to bother with ISOFIX? While she's using the 5-point belt, the car's seatbelt stays in place all the time so it's a non-issue. And once she's outgrown that, you can always either buckle it up again or even bungee the seat to the ISOFIX mounts so it stays put WHEN IT'S NOT BEING USED.

My only criticism of the Recaro Young Sport in my car is that the buckle for the 5-point harness used to end up under Ap0gee Jr's bum if I didn't flip it forward before I put her in - but it has the huge bonus of being a spot-on match for the vRS seats. SWMBO has a Britax Evolva 1-2-3 as mentioned above, which has been brilliant, even if the colours are a bit girly...

We used the Maxi Cosi Priory XP.

Great seat, easy to fit, quickly removed, buckles were easy, although the straps had a an annoying knack of getting in a twist sometimes.

Apart from that, great !
