From 1st January 2012, the new test items will be:

Warning lights for the engine, airbags, main beam, electronic stability, brake fluid, electronic

parking brake, tyre pressure monitoring.

Light switches to check that front and rear work at the same time.

Headlamp adjuster presence.

Steering lock operation.

Seatbelt safety devices, no mechanical flags have been triggered to indicate a deployed seatbelt

pretensioner.

HID headlamps have washers and self levelling.

Visible wiring security and condition.

Battery security.

Engine mountings and the structure to which they are attached.

Power steering fluid, where the level can be seen without removing the reservoir cap.

Rear doors open from the outside.

Driveshaft gaitors, will include inner gaitors on front wheel drive, may even include a non steered

axle.

Ball joint dust cover condition.

Electrical testing of 13 pin tow bar sockets.

Leak detection test for LPG systems.

Fuel pipe condition.

Missing anti pollution equipment, catalyst or DPF.

There will be a new section introduced for inappropriate repairs or modifications, which may include things like stretched tyres, inappropriately low suspension.

From 1st September 2013 for cars registered after 24th July 2010,brake performance requirements will

change from 25% on a steered axle to 30% on all axles for imbalance, from 50% to 58% for service

brake efficiency.

HID headlamps have washers and self levelling.

Missing anti pollution equipment, catalyst or DPF.

There will be a new section introduced for inappropriate repairs or modifications, which may include things like stretched tyres, inappropriately low suspension.

I think these particular items will upset a lot of folks with deleted DPFs and/or catalytic converters. Most after market HIDs can easily be swapped out for halogens when it comes to test time though.

That looks interesting changes. I would love to see an MOT tester check the power steering fluid in a Furby, (it's burred under the battery)!

It looks like you've copied it from somewhere, can you give us the source? Also will most of the changes effect all cars, not just ones after a certain date?

What I've wondering with these is - as I have factory fit xenons dipped beam, leveling and washers are there - so could I fit HID full beam legally. . Guess time will tell.

It may be possible to check from underneath as the reservoir is translucent and not all of them have the insulation fitted.

The source should be reliable, as the above post is a summary of my notes taken whilst attending a VOSA seminar. It looks copied and pasted, because I typed it out in notepad first.

From what I gather, these new items will be applicable to all class IV tests (cars & light commercials) carried out after 01/01/12.

I had a feeling that it was from someone (like you) who was "in the know" about this matter.

I do believe what you say, but I will wait for the official bulletin to post it up on other forums.

I have been told that the 13 pin towing electrics test is only groups 4 & 7.

My car has passed it's last two MOT's with a "HID Conversion Kit" fitted.

However, my car does have projector lenses, the same lens used if the car had been factory fitted with HID's.

I've also gone out of my way to make sure they have been aimed correctly and there is no chance of dazzling oncoming traffic.

Over the 18 months or so I've had the HID's installed I can count on one hand the number of times I've been flashed.

HID's in reflector lenses (except where this was a factory fitted option - many moons ago) should always fail.

Because they scatter the light so much - they are just a complete nightmare.

I won't still have this car when ot's next MOT is due at the end of this year and my next car is having factory fitted HID's.

Don't know if the new owner of mine (when I sell it) will have any problems.

Some DPF deletes are done whilst retaining the original exhaust pipework, so from the outside the system will look intact, and if the car then passes the smoke test then the car should pass.

My car has not been through an MOT yet, but I wonder how do they do a smoke test on a DSG that will not rev above 2.5K RPM in P or N.

Visual inspection. Tuning chips may be out if this is adopted, but remaps are not covered by this proposed legislation as it stands currently by my reading.
