How long will my Turbo last?

Featured Replies

Hi all,

Just a bit curious about something as my Fabia VRS is 7 years old this year and im toying with the idea of getting shut at some point.

Anyway...Said Fabia has 60,000 miles on the clock most of which ive put on since i remapped the car a few years back. I drive aggressively at times but not too often (still on original clutch). My question is, how long realistically can the Turbo last as the remap clearly makes it work a damn sight harder than the original set up. Further to that if/when the turbo does go what sort of price am i looking at for a new/reconditioned one including installation?

Thanks to all in advance

Ben

how long is a piece of string????

it could break in a day, aweek, a year.

only thing you can do is look after it best you can i.e regular oil changes, dont boot it till oil is warm, leave it to cool down when u finish your journey

mine is on 95k now still on original turbo had it re-mapped for bout 15k aswell untill flywheel decided it dint like my driving style :D

Thanks thats what i had a feeling the case would be.

And any further ideas on the cost with installation for a new one when it does finally pop its clogs

not cheap, several hunderd id imagine

I ran my original turbo (and clutch) with a remap (173bhp 295lb/ft) for more than 100k before it went pop at 140k.

I'd say you have plenty of mileage left in yours even with a remap.

You can get a like for like new replacement turbo for around 700 notes, plenty of low mileage used ones come up on here and eBay.

Low mileage turbos can be picked up for less than £200, fitting £150ish, so hardly a massive big deal tbh
