Superskoda White LED Door lights

Featured Replies

Ordered some LED door lights from Superskoda around the Chrismas period, and they were delivered today.

Thought I'd post a few pics to let you see what they look like in. Oh and the 40 seconds they quote to fit, is about spot on! Although that is per side..

Please excuse the quality of the pics - its cold, raining & I couldn't be arsed to get the decent camera out

I like :thumbup:

These are fantastic. I also got the interior leds from them :-D

I ordered mine before christmas and still don't have them. :(

Unlucky mate, possible snow delay?? I got mine within about 5 days. Did they give a tracking number?

Mine were posted by them on the 23rd Dec, and arrived by Royal Mail..

Fingers crossed yours turn up tomorrow!

Interesting - hadn't seen these before - however I suspect they're illegal here since they're displaying a red light backwards.

Now I know you'll say "so does a reversing lamp" but would Skoda have made them red if they could legally have installed white?

I could be wrong, but I'm pretty sure I've seen cars with lights like this where 1/2 is white, the other half red. Assuming they're standard fitment, how would you stand with those?

Could it be that the cost of making the lamp 2 colours is one Skoda wanted to advoid, and just stuck with white red?

Edit, found these - http://www.peterbeer...terior_leds.htm (right at the very end of the page). Looks like VAG symbols to me, and it says they're standard. . .

Edit - typo

My Citroen XM had bicolour lights - but the white bit pointed downwards...

Ok, so I checked the Road Vehicles Lighting Regulations (gah I'm sad), and its absolutely fine :thumbup: :

(2) No vehicle shall be fitted with a lamp which is capable of showing any light to the rear, other than a red light, except–

(a)amber light from a direction indicator or side marker lamp;

(b)white light from a reversing lamp;

©white light from a work lamp;

(d)light to illuminate the interior of a vehicle;

etc etc

http://www.legislation.gov.uk/uksi/1989/1796/regulation/11/made

Yes - but when the door is open it's not illuminating the interior - thus it's illegal! Why otherwise are these lights always red?

In normal use when driving, the light is not visible to traffic. Its primary function is to illumate the interior, and therefore within the exception of the regulations.

Cars are manufactured to comply with as many countries laws as possible, so as to save money by not having to change parts for each country. They're probably red as some country has that requirement, whereas the UK doesn't seem to..

MK6 polo has White and Red lights on the doors, so can't be illegal.

But am guessing they are red because are they not to illuminate the presence of an open door to other cars at night and white light wouldn't be to obvious as its white, and so are headlamps

si

Tbh who actualy cares if they are illegal.

Do you think you'd actualy get done by the police.

Sorry - but I completely disagree. These lights "In normal use when driving" as you put it are off! They only turn on when you open the door (accepting that both come on, but the one inside doesn't actually do anything if the door is closed) - hence their primary use is to illuminate OUTSIDE the vehicle.

Yes - and if a policeman wanders up having been alerted by these white lights and become curious, and then sees illegally tinted lights and windows... etc, etc

I do concede it isn't as dangerous to other people as tinted windows and brake lights.

The clear lens of the boot lamp is the same size as the door lamp.

Surely these could be modified to have a red section whilst keeping the bottom half

white?? Maybe using some red translucent plastic or some thinned down red paint?

Just a thought.... :thumbup:

It's a pity Skoda didn't copy Citroen. (From memory) My XM had a light in the bottom edge of the door with an L shaped cover - the bottom section was clear for the puddle light and the vertical section was red as the warning light - but only one bulb

Not at all !

Just clarifying when it was said they only work when the doors are open, when infact they work when still closed ;)

Grrr's on to something.. Most the VW's have the oval dual light.. but it's only a lens cover, the lamp it's self is the same type as ours.

With a boot lamp from the Fabia (which, as he pointed out to me a while ago is the same design as the red door lamps) yo ucould mimic the 2/3rds red and bottom 3rd white effect with some red lamin-x or the like really easily.

Another option for door lights could be in the wing mirror as someone did recently... or even, with the right size LED's.. along the bottom edge of the door card, which his plastic.. but you'll need to be 100% sure your carriers water tight ;)

I have now checked with my MOT tester, and he sees no issue with these at all - as far as he is concerned, they are interior lights. The reg's I linked to back this up.

Popped the old ones apart, and it's just a 501 type bulb in there.. Cheap upgrade route for others perhaps? Get 501 led bulbs from ebay & fit. Might try for ****s & giggles.
