furby vrs not cat 1 alarm

Featured Replies

Would it be noticeably different if you just fitted window stickers from a better quality alarm? Bit gyppo I know, but what would the visible differences insode the car be?

With a decent Clifford for example...

Big flashing LED....and an external proximity sensor that chirps at anyone lingering near the car. If they don't move away, it goes into full alarm and all hell breaks loose.

Don't forget the internal sensing, which the Fabia vRS apparently does not have. Personally i find that a bit strange. They might as well not bother selling the car with an alarm.

I hate those bloody things. Saw a Chinquecento (sp?) at a car show with one of those on - parked between two WRX's  as if that's the one they're going to steal...

Toad stickers anyone?

Just out of curiousity does anyone know what an alarm has to pass to be classed as Cat 1?

Hmmm had a confusing time with the swmbo sat in the car when i went into my local chinese. Automatically locked the car and 5mins later the alarm was going off her inside. Took 5 mins to detect her. Anyway so I ran outside and unlocked the car, went back in with the car unlocked and it started going off again almost straight away  carried on like this for a while till i finally decided to put the keys in the ignition

Did you press unlock twice?

First press would stop the alarm going off, but not disarm it. Second press would disarm it.

A Cat 1 alarm has to meet the requirements below.

Passengers car systems are grouped as followed:

Cat 1: Combined alarm/immobiliser. Minimum requirements are full perimeter detection volumetric detection. Self - powered siren anti - scan/anti-grab code resistance and passive set 2 circuit immobiliser (or coded intervention of operationally relevant control unit e.g. EMS)

Cat 2: Electronic/Electromechanical I mmobiliser. Minimum requirements are anti-scan/anti-grab code resitance and passively set 2 circuit immobiliser (or coded intervention of operation relevant control unit e.g. EMS)

Thatcham Cat 2-1. Covers upgrade alarm system which will complement an existing Category 2 system to create a full category 1 approved system offering enhanced security and greater insurance discounts.

Thatcham Cat 3.. Covers mechanical devices i.e. steering locks.

So is it worth fitting something like a Clifford cat 1 alarm? Not sure how much they cost, just did a wee bit of googling but didn't manage to find any prices.

I would put my life on being able to park my car on my drive with the keys in the ignition every day for a year and the car would be there when i woke up, but i do sometimes stay at my cousins house in the centre of cardiff..

and with a

I used to have a Clifford Concept 500 on my Scooby turbo and it was the best, most reliable alarm I've had on a car. TBH, I wouldn't bother on a Fabia - it already has a cat1 alarm and if anyone is that desperate to nick it, they'll defeat whatever security you have on it..........
