furby vrs not cat 1 alarm

Featured Replies

it seems the alarm & immobiliser don't meet the thacham cat 1 criteria :( thats a shame

Really? What makes you say that, as the Elegance one does ;)

Chris

True, but the immobiliser IS Cat 2 approved - and for insurance purposes very few underwriters will discount any more for Cat 1 security over Cat 2.

Don't matter anyway, if the alarm goes off nobody bothers to batter an eyelid round our way...

the security rating is A so you really cant go any better

Thought you could get into the Furby within 30 seconds, not sure about driving it away I must admit :(

no the elegance doesnt ;)

the thatcham website makes me say it ;)

http://www.abi.org.uk/carinsurance/search.asp

That makes interesting reading! I only said it did because with a remap' date=' Tesco needed a certificate from a dealer to say the alarm was fully working and my dealer referred me to Skoda CS. Skoda CS said they couldn't understand why the insurance company would need this info as the alarm was fully Cat 1 compliant! A quick google shows that in the list on [url']www.thatcham.org[/url] all Skoda's are only rated as T2, however!

I stand corrected :D

alarms can be cat 1 but they get looked at every so often and can be re graded

Dont think anyone batters an eyelid anywhere. The only use for car alarms is when the owner can here his own car alarm go off

Am I missing something? According to the ABI site posted earlier, the information for the vRS is;

SKODA FABIA VRS TDI (130) 1 1896cc 2004 5 - Diesel Manual 46514301 9 E T1

With the final "T1" being the Security rating. I presume that means Thatcham Cat 1?

Hmmm - seems to be the pre 2004 (facelift?) cars that are only T2 and the Elegance and vRS in '04 are both T1. Any of the techies know what changed between the two to affect compliance? :)

strange as i searched on a 03 car and it said t2

I had not heard of T1 and T2 before. Here is the ABI's decode for them:

T2 = An immobiliser that has been judged to comply to the Thatcham criteria.

T1 = An alarm/immobiliser combination that has been judged to comply to the Thatcham criteria.

I asked my dealer on Friday when I ordered my new Elegance. He said it was Cat 1.

There are parts missing from the fabia alarm system, that means it does not meet thatcham 1 criteria, (mainly the internal sweep and something to do with the locks).

Judging by how easily my 2005 vRS alarm and deadlocks were defeated, I don't think it deserves a Cat 1 status anyway.

Probably not wise to tell any passing scrotes EXACTLY how to get into a Furby :)

Smash rear window - climb into front of car - pop bonnet - disconnect battery - job done, alarm and deadlocks disabled according to the general manager at Vindis... :(

And even though the boot switch is motorised, there's a manual release catch on the inside. Nice.[/quote']

unless you fit bullet proof glass i guess we`re all knackered...

my insurance company rates my 05 vrs as T1.

Fair play, post modified by request. But the guy who quoted me will need to remove the quote too...

PS meant no harm, was just shocked that a *supposedly* thatcham cat 1 alarm was about as much use as a chocolate fireguard

If he doesn't i'm sure a mod will :)

Now, forget the P.O.S factory fit alarm and go get a Clifford or Toad alarm.

I've talked to a couple of car theives at work (HM Hotel with Bars) and they'll walk past any car that's obviously fitted with a decent system.

Would it be noticeably different if you just fitted window stickers from a better quality alarm? Bit gyppo I know, but what would the visible differences insode the car be?
