Interesting Intercooler question

Featured Replies

As well as my Fabia VRS i also have a 1.9 PD VW Touran & The intercooler is MASSIVE!! Would this fit along with some self made pipework??

Link to the ebay auction - Intercooler

I'd imagine that even if it physically fits in the space available you'd need custom mounts and custom pipework which would probably make it more expensive than a SEAT or Forge set up. You'd possibly needed to cut the crash bar as well and given the size of the IC probably a lot which i dunno if i'd be happy about!

Its std fitment to the 2.0 TDi 170bhp Tourans and is still within flow rate for the 230bhp remapped ones (info taken form Clubtouran.net) Mot sure of efficient it would be though - but for £100 and genuine VAG parts could be worth a bash!

errrrrrrr.

BRAND NEW GENUINE OIL COOLER PART NUMBER 1K0145803T

I see where you're both coming from. If the bigger cooler fits in the space available, and won't be too heavily masked by the crashbar, then it's down to how the costs of the custom bracketry and pipework will compare with the costs of the off-the-shelf kit.

Its definately is an intercooler - I checked the part number on Etka.

Brackets arent a problem my father has an engineering background and we have a lathe and machining workshop under my parents house. ALso getting the pipework to fit wouldnt be an issue either. Just not sure if it would be worth doing! :)

Anything can be done and with an engineering background theres no stopping you

Give it a go

All I need to do its buy one of these from Forge

The rest is all pretty straight forward! :) I built a custom intercooler for a Polo G40 that was running a KO3 turbo instead of a supercharger - that was easy enough! :)

Heathan!

Do it and let us know! :giggle:

I had 2 G40's one was totally original and kept like that - the other had a Rothe manifold, K03 turbo 250cc injectors and was rated about 200bhp or so - that was a toy! The supercharger on that one was blown when I bought it - so turbo seemed like a fun alternative!

go for it mate, these off the shelf kits are a joke, for the sake of an afternoon of measuring a few bits n cutting some silicone hose...worth a try everytime! :) only prob i can see is the angled hose connectors might push the whole thing too far forward.

The pic on the ebay link is very misleading - its actually the other way round on the car - the pic is of the back of the cooler!

ye thought that but still it wud prob push the whole thing quite far forward

Yeah, you could do with side exit pipes rather than pointing towards the engine
