Picture Request

Hi all,

This winter my late (sold them yesterday) TT Comps were extensively chipped around the edge of the rim on the back of the car (see pics) from grit being thrown back from the front tyres.

I can thing of a few ways to prevent this, one idea is to fit mudflaps.

However my car is Silver and i'm not sure if they will look right.

So if anyone has a picture of a silver vRS with mudflaps then I'd love to see it (I've seen red with TT comps and black with Octavia Spiders and I liked them both.

Thanks in anticipation

I'd get some if I were you.. Skoda make the best looking flaps in the whole of the VAG. They're all molded and smooth looking and not so much "flappy" looking but almost look like a little body kit I reckon.

I know it's black, but they're uploaded already anyway on flickR, so thought I'd pop them up.

The Skoda mudflaps are not much use though. I fitted the rear ones and the rear screen still gets muck and spray up the rear screen. And also fitted front ones and you can still see where the mud gets kicked all up the side of the car. They're more style over function IMO.

Dont they come with from ones standard?

Just double checked and they hardly would be classed as effective :)

Never knew you can get chips on wheels from stones, there was me thinking I kurbed my alloys! How much are these mudflaps from the dealers?

Im sure some aero guy will correct me on this but, from my limited knowledge: muck on the rear screen is caused by aero uplift from a lack of 'tail' at the rear of the car. fyi this uplift can cause downforce as there is -ve differential pressure if it is channelled correctly ("smoothly") hence you see some cars have rear diffusers, these are supposed to help rear end downforce by 'pulling air upwards'. Thus a rear flap wont do anything besides from keeping the rear quarter of the bumper clean.

....** Waits to get owned by someone who actually knows aero :D **

Edit: Actually on solving the problem one would probably need to smooth the bottom of the rear end and create a 'delayed vortex', exactly how to create delayed vortex I dont remember. Tbh thats all I understood from the aero person I was chatting to..

Fascinating. Do still get mud up the side of the car with front flaps though :D

The flaps aren't much (under £20 for each end) although the front ones I was given were for the newer model and have a slight difference that you can only see if you get on your hands and knees. They were also described as something rather peculiar on the Skoda computer system and not "mud flaps", probably just badly translated from czech.

Lol mud at side of car is simply due to mud flap not big enough to cover upwards splash area of wheels, plus I assume as muck splashes up the speed of vehicle creates force and pulls it back onto the car anyway (like how passing trains pull people in). So my take on mudflaps as a 'functional item' is a fat fail :D but they do look nice.

My flaps were very functional when they went on....they covered up wing damage! HA!

If it's done that to your wheels take a quick look at the underside of your sills as well just in case they are damaged! I was shocked at mine.

I had a look around for mud flaps a while a go and all I could find were silly red and blue ones on ebay.

I didn't think the OE mudflaps fit the vRS for some reason? My parents Elegance has them. If they fit fine I might just have to get me some...!

Mark, I think the front ones fit fine, but either the bumper or the flaps need to be modified for the rears to fit...

As said fronts simple to fit, whereas back mud-flaps need some chunks of trim to be removed on the Fabia VRS, owing to rear trim design.

indeed! i posted a thread about this the other day, i advise anybody who hasnt checked to do so before its too late !!!!

im pleased somebodys posted this in the same week i found the problem [in the above link] actaully, im going to have to try and fit some front mudflaps after ive cleaned the stonechips/rust up to prevent it from happening again emoticon-0106-crying.gif

This is my wifes Fabia vRS with mud flaps that I made to size and fitted myself, the material for the flaps was supplied by performance creations.

No, its true. Not kerb damage!

I suspect the paint used on the rims was not very durable.
