Recommend me a Audio Setup

Featured Replies

So the OEM stuff won't play mp3 cds & the mutlichanger unit under the passengers seat doesn't like CDR-RW audio disks.

Like the idea of blue-tooth with a built in microphone that way I could ditch my portable blue-tooth visor unit..

Really looking for suggestions esp. those with with SE Fabias who have changed their kit. Pics would be useful too

TIA

I have an Alpine headunit that I will be selling very shortly, if you purchase the bluetooth box, you can make phonecalls through the unit itself, access phonebook etc. Only thing is, it doesn't have a CD slot, purely ipod, or other hard disk. A CD changer can be added, but I'd guess it would have to be an Alpine unit.

Thanks for the offer but was looking at more of a built in setup for the bluetooth tbh.

Thinking about it a cd drive isn't that imortant as long as i could plug in a usb drive with say mp3s on it. Do any of the car systems play FLAC files? I know they play wma

Have an Alpine in my SE - the new version is the CDE-125BT and I must say it works very well. Has Ipod control (sits in the cubby hole just under the head unit) and the hands free mic is fitted at the top of the drivers side A pillar. Can change colour of the display to 'match'.

Sound quality and phone quality are good and I'd recommend it without hesitation.

It was about £200 inc fitting at Halfrauds - would post photos but it's elsewhere ATM.

Thanks for the info. So does it hook up to the multichanger under the passengers seat or did you remove that ?

oh & did you get halfrauds to supply the facia plate & other bits too ?

The cd changer was just left and isn't connected so if I replace the original when I sell it it will be an easy fix. With the Ipod connection there's no need for cds!

The extra facia plate that goes at the top is about £3 Skoda and matches the surround perfectly, unlike some of the other makes. The only other thing needed for installation is an aerial amp.

So looking at getting a JVC KD-R811. Gets fairly good reviews & seem to tick all the boxes.

Best price I can find is here

What additional parts will i need to order in terms of adaptors & facia (part no if i get this from a dealer please) & where would be the best place to get them?

Think i would prefer to get it professionally fitted, any recommendations in or near Cumbernauld?

Thanks again

Clarion do 2 units, the cheap one (About £120), is SD card and Radio only, No CD; but includes BlueTooth and a mike; the other is very expensive and has everything.

I had the cheaper one in my last Toyota for several years, a great looking little ICE unit.

Don't mess around with single din. Get a double din. Myself and a few others on here have the jvc avx 810. Brilliant unit. DVD player mp3 player Sd car slot USB slot Bluetooth add on optional (which I've got) looks brilliant all touch screen and really has the wow factor. Everyone loves it. I've even got slim line ps2 in my glove box wired to it.

I have the kdr-811 and i have to say im pretty impressed. I have it hooked up to a micro sd card reader and all my albums are on one tiny card. Bluetooth also works a treat. Only issue i have is that when i plug in the usb it doesn't always recognise that there is something there, but this is possibly down to the fact i am using a card reader.

Overall though i would highly recommend this unit. Also, fitting is pretty easy, there is a guide on here somewhere about routing the hands free mic which is the trickiest bit!

Thanks for the suggestion but a bit out of my budget tbh

Thanks so what additional bits did you need as well as the unit?

The fascia adaptor, as mentioned earlier in the topic, and the ISO connector thing, although i already had this as the JVC replaced my ageing sony unit. All you have to remember is about switching the red and yellow wires over, this is explained pretty well in the JVC manual though.

thanks got the jvc today, so will call local dealer tomorrow about facia, other bits halfords guess

My fascia adaptor was a Halfords type thing, but its.not great, I understand the skoda one is better. Let me know how you get on with the stereo, really enjoying mine. Just looking to get the drawer to sit under the stereo to finish it off!

Will do :-)

I have, and highly recomend a Pioneer DEH unit, installed paired to 4 5.25" Sound Barrier Speakers w separate tweeters (w crossover) with a Kenwood KAC-458S (200watts max 2 channels) paired to a 6.5" double coil basooka (audio pipe speaker, standard bazooka box) and i must say, it sounds amazing, full volume no distortion lots of punch and minimal battery drain while playing.

Tried phoning round skoda dealers but none had any stock so just got a mobile fitter guy to supply & fit & it looks ok with the non genuine skoda part which cost about 4 times the price!(£16).

Really pleased with the unit. Tried a usb stick & my HTC Desire via Bluetooth & am very impressed. Also paired & got mobile working without issues.

Sound is amazing compared to the symphony unit that was taken out
