As if I dont have enough points?

Featured Replies

If you were in a position to lose your licence as a result of your offence (either as a consequence of its severity or through totting up) you wouldn't be offered a speed awareness course. It's designed to correct the behaviour of drivers with otherwise clean driving records who may have developed a bad habit or two, not to allow people to buy their way out trouble.

Just my opinion here. If someone has say 6 points and slips up again getting a further 3 points surely a speed awareness course should be part of his fine. BTW this is not aimed at OP or any other person who has posted.

To me it makes sense, the person has been caught 3 times and has not changed their habits. Make them aware of what speed can do.

Speed awareness course = get out of jail/ increased insurance for £xxx (I would have said get out of jail for free but of course it isn't)

Points are complete BS imo why should someone caught doing 79 mph on a motorway get the same points as someone caught doing 39 outside a primary school? Let alone get points for doing the same speed as every other bugger on the road just because he happens to have filled in rear windows!! Lets face it most chelsea tractors weigh more than 2 tonnes and are more likely to be driven by someone less than competant or aware compared to aforementioned van man.

No, imo which is worth the sq. root of FA there should be a sliding scale of fines, from say 10% over limit to 20% over limit and then points and fines for anything above. AND the speed limit should be clearly marked at every junction.

And as for the person who said it would be unpractical to make signs with speed limits for various classes of vehicle on then I suggest you take a wander over to the continent where they manage just that with a lot less road furniture than we have..

My hero

The most horrible on-road behaviour of all the vehicles I've ever travelled in was also exhibited by Chelsea Tractors and those 7 seat so-called MPVs.

And when you can drive anything up to 20 miles between road junctions? (not joking, and I'm not talking about motorways either)

Yeah but you have had to turn onto that road at some point, if you can't remember what it said when you did tough., However with the plethora of NSP and 50 limits being knocked down to 40 and 30 with no or little signage is a joke especially if you are new to the road.

No word of a lie a road near us was a 40 limit for ever and a day, It is fairly wide but it is semi urban so fair enough no quibble about it being made a 30, BUT when they made it a 30 they put up scamera signs and 30 repeaters +a 'welcome to Birkenshaw remember the speed limit' with a big 30 on the same sign. Within two months of these changes being made all the 30 repeaters where removed (scamera signs stayed)

NOW before anyone bleats about lamposts etc and knowing the speed limit what really got my goat, what really showed what a set of wazzocks the scp are was the big reflective welcome to sign remained but the big red 30 was covered over with a sheet of material the same as the signs background.!!!!!!!! Now removing repeaters to be re-used elsewhere saves money, but to go to the expense of covering over the bloody limit takes the biscuit!!!!!!!!!

I think you missed what I was actually saying. It was the course PLUS the points and fine. Nothing concentrates the mind better than a hit in the wallet. Sorry just my opinion.

As for the scamera partnership I think the covering of the limit on the welcome sign is what we expect from these money grabbers. I think someone needs to send photographic evidence to Edmund King ? RAC ,he is often on talking about these charlatans and to the chief constable for the area.

Again this is my opinion and not that of the forum(Just in case they are big brothering us lol)
