This new Focus

Featured Replies

Now I may be p'raps a little bit old fashioned here, but really, this new Focus is one hell of one ugly munter imo.

It's supposed to be a really good drive, and I have no doubt that it is.

.They've all been excellent handling cars, but the mk 1 was such a fine looking beast, crisp and sharp, inside and out.. Still is in my book too.

Is it just me then, cus I couldn't bare to look at it's ugly messy complicated but boring face and bum on my driveway every morning.

Same goes for many latest reincarnations of many other models now too.

Take the Ka mk2 for instance.....aghhhhhh, and it really isn't selling well either apparently.

I won't start going on about the latest Skodas however, as I don't want to start a riot in here. :D

Personal taste thing, I know.

I am disapointed n the new Focus the new ST looks horrendous too.

After 4 MK2 ST's and an RS I wont be getting another Focus for a long tme by the looks of it!

Purely on its appearance?

Mk 1 RS was a fantastic looking motor. Defo future classic like the Sierra Cosworth.

How do these manufacturers manage to make things look so bad. Don't they do cutomer opinion 'clinics' before release anymore?

That dashboard too!

Looks like one of those low rent all shiny with no substance plastic ghetto blasters from Curry's old stock bargain corner. :D

They haven't made a good looking one since the Mk1. Which is one of the reasons I haven't owned one since the Mk1 :)

That was such a good car to drive, straight out of the box.

Another reason is STILL the lack of a decent 'performance' diesel

I remember seeing the first transporter load of mk1's being delivered at my local Ford dealer wher I was actually working as a contractor.

All the sales satff went out to marvel at this radical and exciting looking new addition, and it really was too!

How things can change ey, and they call THIS progress?

I'm not surprised, especially after the excitement that was the Mk6 Escort :p

But yes, in all seriousness, it was something of a leap forward for Ford. Pity they haven't really capitalised on it since the Mk1 was replaced.

They've really dropped some epic clangers over the years Ford, haven't they?

Ford Scorpio anyone? :D

I like it!

The new ST is definatly on my list of cars when I change.

It's interior is really impressive, edgy and fresh.

It's just that it's a new style and people don't like change, like civic type R went from plain to futuristic and everyone got used to it.

Not actually quite true. Think you're generalising a bit too much there tbh.

Current Fiesta for instance. They got that right, and a vast improvement over the previous model...apart from this garish u.f.o. instrument panel nonsense that seems to be the norm. in the Ford range now.unfortunately.

Its very expensive for what it is, I mean the one in the review is £28K, thats into BM/Merc territory. As another reviewer has said, you can get an Octavia which is a bigger better car for a whole load less. For 28K you could get yourself a Merc C class or a top end skoda superb with loads of toys, my PD140 Superb elegance DSG had an OTR price of 23K.

The new Micra?

Another dreadful looking thing. Appreciate it's usually purchased by ole grannies that don't actually give a jot whet their mode of transport looks like, but oh deary me, what another massive step backwards.

Bland as they could possibly make it. At least the old one was instantly recognisable.

Anyone seen the roof on them too? Got the Citroen chevrons pressed into the panel! :D

Quite agree about the Nissan but the new Focus isn't too bad. Always hated those lofty rear lights on the "old" one - looked like they'd forgotten to add them to me. I wouldn't mind taking an ST with powershift box for a spin though to see how it compares with DSG but I'm not rushing to sell my vRS.

I still like the mk1 Focus (pre-facelift is better than post), didn't really like the mk2 until it got a (fairly substantial) facelift. I'm not not so keen on the upcoming mk3 although I don't think the colour in those pics do it any favours - seen it in a metallic red and it doesn't look as bad. still too pricey, although a similar spec Octavia isn't far off

That's what I said, apart from you don't like don't like instrument panel!

New fiesta massive improvement on old, new focus massive improvement on old,( engine, emissions, style, the list goes on)

I've sat in very many of these at the Paris motor show last year and that interior is well in your face. Like in MINI OMG where should I be looking busy! Good quality but way, way too busy. Look at these pictures of the switches on the steering wheel I took:

And the exterior?! Yuck. Over designed as most Fords these days and my biggest hate are those rear lights with the extra swoop on the side doing absolutely NOTHING but add a sweep for the sake of it. In good design you should not be able to add or subtract any specific detail from the design without ruining it, i.e. less is more. This is more, more, more.

Though I do like how the fuel filler cap is hidden against this swoop - and maybe that is its only function?

I quite like it. Like a big Fiesta.

Too much technology in there though. Too much to go wrong on a 'budget' motor.

Everytime manufacturers wheel out their latest and greatest new tricks I can help but think that it'll break and be a shoite to fix.

I really liked my Mk1 Focus (2001). Good solid car never had much bother with it and I regret getting rid of it so early. It's still going too. I see it every so often

yep, its nice when it all works, but its more to go wrong, and it inevitably at some point it does. Then its expensive to repair.

And for the fords looks, i find it funny how you can see the mk1 morphed into the mk3 via the mk2 and mk2.5. Ford have done a top job really, a car that is clearly a Focus, yet after starting with such a looker, finnishing with a pigs ear.

Or the other end of the pig even? :D

Probably a top contender for ugliest new car of the year award I'd have thought.

Its horrid - mind you it will probably still sell by the 1000 load! I like the comments on the Autoexpress website, someone said you would get an Octavia for less!

I could be wrong - but I'm starting to get the impression you don't like this car?

But £28k for a Ford! That's not far off a new Golf R, or would get you a decent Passat CC or a Sirocco!

you can indeed get a lower spec Octavia for a lower (list) price

I would rather push a vw than drive a ford, last ford i drove was the mk1 focus rs, horrible thing, the last good ford i drive was a mk2 escort rs2000 , they stopped making anything i would drive after that!!!!
