T from TDI falling off

Featured Replies

One of my friends pointed out that my T from TDI was falling off, and low and behold it was. So I helped it all the way before I lost it.

I might have caught it yesterday when I was cleaning Elsie, but I didn't notice it this morning when I opened the tailgate, so not sure how or why it happened.

Question is, do I remove the DI and the 4x4 and de-badge so nobody can tell what model it is? It's hard enough to tell anyway what model you have - E/S/SE/Elegance. Elsie could be a E with her steel wheels, until you look inside and up close.

The letters are held on with a spongy material.

Hi Mike,

sadly sometimes they do fall off, depends on the conditions, fixing and quality of the bonding of that particular letter. The replacement is the whole badge :S but should be covered by warranty at such an early stage after delivery.

Believe the part no is;

1Z 853 687 AS KTP

However if you want a red DI to reflect the new status ;) then try;

5L 853 687 E GQF

Hopefully I've got them the right way round and I've not included the 110 4x4 by mistake; parts 'book' is as clear as mud on this one :D

Regards,

TP

Thanks Tim. Still unsure if I want to replace it or go for the debadged look, I was considering when I saw the option on the online configurator when I was waiting for Elsie.

If you want to remove the other badging, dental floss or fishing line can help and is safer on the paint than levering off.

Warm them with a hairdryer, it makes the adhesive gloopy then remove with the dental floss. Any residue should still be warm and can be picked off, then give the area a polish. I want to de-badge our cars but my wife prefers them!

But then your insurer will say that the thief who stole your Yeti mistook it for the very top of the range model, and so your debadging made it more likely to be piched, and you hadn't told us about this modification, sir, so we are deeply sorry that you were not insured against theft. ;-)

Seeing as it is the top of the range model, it shouldn't make any difference emoticon-0140-rofl.gif

Elsie looks like an 'E' at the moment with her black 16" steel wheels......

Done.

De-badged.

Found a couple more 'loose' letters, so they are all now off, polished and waiting for the high gloss finish to dry then polish again.

Really? Do you have any proof for that statement?

Exactly. I don't think that is a valid argument either, but I'm not sure if he was joking.emoticon-0136-giggle.gif

Lots of cars these days are de-badged from the factory, and it usually the lower spec ones pretending to be higher spec ones. In my case it is the other way round emoticon-0140-rofl.gif

I pity people trying to buy second hand cars in the future... or even now. You just can't ever tell what engine size a car has or model spec. And even if it shows it who can tell which is the beter from Ambiente, Attraction, Avantgarde, Dynamique etc. At least the Yeti still follows the normal age old E, S, SE and Elegance routine even though it is not shown on the car.

Mike: I'd just replace it with a 170 red TDi. emoticon-0140-rofl.gif
