A Yeti and a Puke

Featured Replies

On Saturday we braved Bluewater (that was relatively empty by the way! Blame the VAT increase) and coming back to the car there was a Puke parked next to it. When I saw the Puke in isolation it always looked tiny – and this is confirmed when sitting in the back or opening the boot – but parked next to the Yeti it was amazing how big a nose it has! The nose is so much taller than the Yeti and all in all the thing did not look puny next to it. Still pig ugly though!

Puke is indeed appropriate. I imagine the round (fog?)lights are a design 'lift' from the Yeti but how messy this front end is in comparison with the SM! The overall effect of the Puke, to me, is of an ugly squatting toad.

The big round lights on the Puke are in fact the main headlights. The fogs are at the bottom next to the three Magnum wine holders. The eyes on top are just the "parking side lights" and the indicators.

Whomever bought the puke, must have still been hung over & had the beautiful looks fog in thier eyes when they went into the dealer & ordered it.

It just seems completely pointless, when its in the same range as the cashcow.

Whilst they're both in the "urban crossover" range, the Juke is smaller and cheaper than the Qashqai...thus it's point is to target people who want something smaller and cheaper than a Qashqai...

I still like the Juke. It makes your head turn when you see one and that makes life more interesting. A bit of edgy styling is a good thing.

Exactly! It sure has a point and the waiting list for it confirms this. I don't like it but am also happy it exists and makes the world a more interesting place!

I agree, it's certainly head turning. The first time I saw one my reaction was"What the **** was that?"

Thanks. I think you were in your forum hibernating mode when I got my car and explained the number plate Macdemon! emoticon-0136-giggle.gif

Jury still out on the Juke, can't decide if I like or dislike it.

Strange location for the front indicators, almost on the bonnet, inbound of the headlamps and position lamps?

I will have to read up on the legal requirements for indicators, I thought they needed to be near the edge of the vehicle?

My second Puke spot this morning; pulled up just ahead of me in the outside lane at a set of lights, think in a silver shade (dawn just). Looked quite ordinary from behind in this colour, although the wheel arches looked like they have just had a course of botox treatment emoticon-0136-giggle.gif

I don't know the legal requirements, but look at the first Ford Focus facelift. The indicators moved from the bumper to be within the main headlights but were the innermost lights and not the outter ones as you'd expect! The same with the Peugeot 206.

I have a thing about front indicators being invisible behind headlight glare at night. Sharing the indicators with the main lights are just dangerous in my book. The first Focus indicators in the bumper are much further from the glare and thus usually visible. The later ones are still furthest from the main lights (albeit in the same cluster) so worse but still better than that of most cars including the Yeti which has their front indicators right next to the main headlights. Not clever. Rant over. emoticon-0143-smirk.gif

So I think the Juke has a very safe arrangement in completely separating the indicators from the main lights. So good on them!

Johann - I am with you there. I think that Audi have them within the main lights and they can be difficult to pick out at times. It may make the car design neater but from a practical point of view it is dangerous.

Audi even admits this is a problem with how their LED DRLs work! Next time you see an Audi indicate look how the relevant LED dims on that side of the car only! So if they KNOW the glare of that makes the indicator invisible why on earth do they fit the indicators right next to the headlights (which of course you can't dim when you use the indicator! doh)?!?!

I think what is happening, functionality is losing out to the fashion guru's which in some cases is not a bad thing.

The migration of the indicator lamps being one case in particular. It might look pleasing to the eye but when lost in the glare of adjacent lights they can lose some of their functionality. One of the worst offenders I've experienced are the rear indicators on the Golf which are located in the centre of the donut shaped brake lights. Difficult to see when indicating and braking at the same time, what a great idea.

I'm sure our young designers will eventually re-invent the wheel and the indicators will continue their migration to the 'B' pillar.

A stalk coming out from the 'B' pillar I bet that hasn't been done before?

But back to the original topic which I didn't wish to hijack. Juke, quirky, distinctive and fashionable in some ways I like it. Functionality well I'm not so sure.

I have started to come across a white 'Puke' on my early morning commute through Manchester. Must admit to being utterly bemused by it. I don't actively dislike it, in fact I quite like the boldness of it but I couldn't ever imagine choosing one over a Yeti.

3,000 miles in now and 'Snowy' is certainly one of the best cars I have ever had, never fails to delight. My boosted boot light arrived the other day so I am now looking forward to seeing what I have in the boot.

I did like this picture of the Juke
