Superchip Bluefin Question

Featured Replies

I had one of these boxes for my old 06 VRS and before selling the car uninstalled it. Upon delivery of my new 2010 VRS i contacted superchips to see about getting the device reset to allow me to use it on the new car. Below is the response from superchips.

"Thanks for returning the form. Based upon the information you have sent us the cost to reset your Bluefin, providing it is uninstalled will be £164.13 + £6 (return carriage)+ VAT so £199.90 in total. It will need to come to us for a Firmware update in addition to the reset.

If the Bluefin has not been uninstalled from the car it was originally used on the cost will be £318.55 inc VAT.

If you wish to proceed on this basis please send the unit to us with payment details and a copy of this e-mail and we will process it for you.

It may be that the Bluefin will not work on your new car as the later cars are not possible to tune via the Diagnostic Port. In these circumstances you can either pass the reset Bluefin on to someone else or we can modify your car here at our Buckingham offices in exchange for your reset Bluefin, providing it is serviceable (not damaged or scratched). Unfortunately the only way to tell if the Bluefin will work on the new car is to try it!"

I might be completely wrong here but is the question of whether or not the blurfin will work down to whether or not my car has an encrypted ECU. Does anyone have any more idea on the likelyhood of success using the bluefin ? I must admit i was a little suprised by superchips lack of certainty on whether or not it will work or not.

Any information would be much appreciated. I dont really want to drive all the way to Buckingham for a remap when i have the likes of JBS and Shark Performance a stones throw away from my front door.

It would seem from what I've read that there is no way of knowing if a car has an encrypted ECU or not without physically trying it?

mmmmmm if thats the case im not sure I want to risk the £200 on the reset. Unless anyone on here wants a cheap bluefin box should it not work on mine.

If it will work on my 56 plate VRS Diesel, i'd certainly be interested? Is it the remap that increases the BHP to 197ish?

Is your new car petrol or diesel?

It will definately work on a 2006 PD, had it on mine and was very satisfied. Bahnstormer had it on his and this also worked very well.

For that price it is a bargain.

(had my bluefin flashed and reprogrammed for my Audi and am still very satisfied with SuperChips)

To the first question, better go to Shark Performance and let the car be checked there.

My new car is a petrol

My bluefin worked fine on my TSI 10 plate, delivered in March 2010.

The problem is, that you cannot tell whether the ECU is encrypted or not. It wont do the thread opener any good, if he thinks his ECU isnt encrypted to find out it is emoticon-0145-shake.gif

Does anyone have any thoughts / comments on the quality of the bluefin map when compared with the likes of Shark performance.

I have to say, Bluefin seems to have fallen out of favour in recent times, keep the thread live and I'm sure you will get the input/feedback you're after, I do know there are a few members who have switched from them to Shark and have been money than happy with the decision.

I will be exploring the Shark STS option when swmbo finally gets her new whip. ;)

As I would have had the opportunity to go to Ben, I would have let him manage my maps.

I already had my Bluefin before Ben started with the STS and buying another one is just a waste of money.

On the other hand, I had very good support by SC and they always sent me revised maps if I wasnt 100% satisfied.

Also sent me revised maps after works updates. So I cannot complain.

I must admit i've heard nothing but praise for the shark maps and i like the idea im a 10 minute drive away from their base so if i have any problems i know im pretty much sorted. I've only got a fraction over 500 miles on the clock so far so i think im gonna wait until its reached the 1k marker and then make a decision.

The choice is simple. Sell the old one to offset a remap from Ben.

However you need to be a Freedom member to sell on here.

Onmeheadson #4 already showed his interest in the Bluefin. (I would have made a deal already emoticon-0144-nod.gif )

Not that straight forward i dont think, to the best of my knowledge (might be wrong here) but wont superchips only reset the bluefin box for the original purchaser ? If that was the case i'd have to send it away pay the £200 and then sell it on. Unless someone was offering £350 ish for the box fully reset i dont think its worth the hassle.

After reading that, i'm going to see Ben at Shark!

He seems very highly regarded here, that'll do for me.

tbh bluefin @ stage 1 is alright although underpowered compared to the opposition. stage 2+ was OK, but as before slightly undeer powered. stage 2 was not good at all.

Bluefin might well have sorted it out for the new TSI engine. All my experience was with regards to the k03 TFSI. From what i gather the k04 TFSI wasnt to bad

i had a blue fin fitted to a golf edition 30.the gains were incredible.shame i let it go on the car.

for the petrol turbo engine i thought it was well worth the money.

however i never changed the map back or took it off.

i think this backs up what i was saying.

no additional mods. Just a plain software change

Oh well, eventually got booked in adn made the swap from stage 3 Superchips to stage 2+ revo.

Car seem to pull a lot better, weather at the minute doesnt help testing

Heres the rolling road graph of superchips vs revo.

Superchips 312.7bhp vs revo 348.6bhp

Superchips 312.5 lb/ft vs revo 370lb/ft

Also just bought a non resonated pipe for the milltek to improve the acoustics  roll on tuesday morning when it gets fitted

Next on list is an FMIC, I might be able to break the 350bhp barrier then...

Same deal with me and timmy. timmy made 23hp more with his shark map on his octavia compared to his bluefin

Installed superchips upgrade on my previous car Mondeo 2.2 TDCi - the upgrade destroyed all four injectors - cost me £ 1200.
