Bit of a dilemma, had this stereo in my old Fabia

17847116x.jpg

Now it has an iPod connector, bluetooth and USB so ideally I want to use it as it has all the toys. On top of that I have already purchased the stereo surround and aerial kit plus I have the ISO connector from the Fabia.

I do however like the original, it fits the car (alpine illumination is blue) and retains all the original functions although I am not fussed about the time or temp as thats on the dash and not fussed about the climate control as thats on the dials. Problem is, bluetooth would cost quite a bit to get hold of and I still couldn't use my iPod in the same way as I can on the Alpine unit. I would prefer to be able to control the iPod rather than plug it into the aux and have to actually handle the iPod.

Any thoughts would be appreciated

You don't say which OEM unit you have, depending on age of your car could make a significant difference!

Also, is it not possible to change the illumination on the Alpine? On my old one (CDA 7893) you could switch it btwn red and green.

Sorry its a stream MP3. I am sure you can't change the colour unfortunately

The problem is , the octy2 dash looks very strange with a single din headunit. If you do go this route, then buy the facia kit from the dealer as it looks oem and includes everything you need, the autoleads facia is poor quality and looks quiet naff.

You'll also need to run a switched power feed direct from the fusebox because the octy2 has no switched supply behind the stereo as it does not need one there as the oem stereo is switched via canbus.

hmm, thats a pain about the switched power feed. Is there a how to guide on here please and excuse my ignorance but why do you need a power feed? Thanks

This is the facia I bought, http://www.celsusice.co.uk/shopdisp_208.php

Also, will I need a different connector than the one I have which was on my Fabia? Looked on the net and it looks rather different

The Bolero is a very good unit and displays a lot of information

So why take it out for this?

Sell it to Fabia MK1 vRS owner

He mentions it's a Stream MP3 in at the moment Chris.

I'd stick with OEM, or go for a Bolero/Columbus upgrade. Or an aftermarket double DIN unit maybe. A single DIN in the Octy2 just looks odd IMO

Lol, just what my wife said. I don't have the cash to make changes unfortunately though. Does this mean I won't have to wite something extra from the fuse box? Sorry for all the questions

With an OEM unit, no extra wire required. With an aftermarket choice, you'll need it. Reasons as Manny explains above.

I take it even changing the HU the parking sensor beeps are retained?

Lol @ Mike

Looks like I am fighting a losing battle. My wife doesnt want me to change because she doesnt want go lose the image on the screen when reversing and she also thinks the single din looks silly. Only problem is I didn't want to spend anymore extra money :(

How good is the bolero unit? Looks like I will have to get that and tell her it's tough, just make do with the beeps

if you fancy a bolero, here's one....http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/skoda-octavia-auto-bolero-cd-player-mp3-/370475850987?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item564214dceb could be a bargin, if its not damaged....

The Bolero's a good unit and makes better use of your existing speakers too. It'll sound better than the existing Stream. Least it's done for me, and I've done the upgrade twice, on two different Octys :)

You also obviously get the ability to use SD cards with it, and it has a 6CD changer in-built.

Decided to sell the alpine and get an iPod connector for the stream and my Dad has an old parrot kit I can have so everyone will be happy. Annoyed I bought the facia and aerial booster but it's a good excuse to buy into briskoda and sell them

I've got a spare Connect2 iPod adaptor for the Stream, if you want it? Brand new.

Was going to put up a sale ad later actually, but if you want it drop me a PM.

Steve

I have a mark II Oct (not the facelift model). If I want to put a Bolero HU in there is it a straight swap..? From the images I cant see the four blanking covers that are on the stream, underneath which are the torx screws that hold it in place. Can you use the same fascia as well...? Are the HUs from the facelift cars any different..? The fascia certainly looks different.

Thanks in advance for any advice.

Well the Alpine is sold and I am sticking with the stream.

I have organised an ipod interface and acquired an old parrot kit of my Dads, but now need to organise the other bits

this, but not sure where to get it from or how to wire it up so if anyone knows I would be grateful

and this

I have tried searching, but no luck. Think I know what I need to do, but would rather double check just incase
