Excessive moisture on inside of screen/glass

Featured Replies

Suffering at the moment with a LOT of excessive dampness on the screen and glass generally at the moment. What could be causing this? My floors are dry so sure nothing is actually leaking in to cause the inside to be damp. Is it just an effect of the climate at the moment?

Same here i've done my door seals pretty well not 100% dry but lots better than what it was.

i have this too, doors were sealed a few months back, pollen filter maybe?

My pollen filter might be overdue a change although I did do it not that long ago. It is mainly the windscreen for sure, but all the glass is pretty bad normally. Trying to find the most absorbant thing to soak it all up and at the moment, loo roll appears to be the best. It does leave bits on the glass though so thinking of the next thing to try - perhaps a microfibre drying cloth.

Your best bet Jason is when you get chance is to clean the inside of the windows using a mix of vinegar and water, but use old newspaper rather than a cloth to wipe the solution around, until its smear free and dry. Having really clean windows goes a long way to reducing the effect of the condensation you are getting! And the other tip is to leave the vent control pointing to the floor position, as it seems to reduce the screen misting up overnight too.

Pollen filter needs changing!!! It's probably blocked and not letting the inside of the car breath! If you know what I mean.

My car has been like yours so I took pollen filter out and blasted it with compressed air to give it a good clean, I now also open all the vents and turn speed setting to 4 (even though engine is off) over night so everything is open and can air the car.

It seems to work for me better but that's me.

Mines the same.

Time of the year doesn't help, I had ice on the inside of the rear screen yesterday

Not helped on the octy by the stupid bootlid which likes to dump water in the boot when it's wet(I CBA waiting for it to run off when it's peeing down)

this was mine yesterday, bad photo as i zoomed from the house window but can still see its bad!!

At a guess some of this lot might help.

1) check pollen filter and ensure any and all organic detritus is removed from the nooks of the heater ducts.

2) check the scuttle drains are draining and not blocked with more bits of tree etc.

3) ensure inside of windscreen is clean - difficult to do properly as it's always damp.

4) stick a large bag of dessicant silica gel on the dash.

My windscreen frosted up this morning.. outside and inside! very strange feeling when im scraping ice on the inside.... :wonder:

There's a similar thread going on with the Octy2 lot about this today.

Came across this earlier. Seems quite ingenious: http://goo.gl/3EUxv

The cleaning window idea is certainly worth doing. Newspaper & vinegar works a treat!

Apart from that - yep, check pollen filter.

I caved in and bought some of these:

(Also going to change pollen filter)

To renew the silica gels, all you need to do is put it in the microwave for a few mins or on the heater for a couple of days.. sounds simple enough.

If your getting the silica gel things beware of the blue ones.. They are apparently something genic and can give you cancer :| . Silica gel in general are also dodgy stuff apparently (if inhaled can give you cancer blah blah)... Not my forte so cant give exact details.

Mines been particularly bad this week too, although I did clean the car on sunday, washed seats too so probably still some dampness around. It's a pain as cleaning the condensation off the windscreen just makes it dirty again, creating more condensation overnight. One big letdown of Skodas it seems? Seems the VRS 2 still has similar issues!?

Mine's been hopeless the last two days...

Mines the same, it's had a new pollen filter only a couple of thousand miles ago, carpets are ok but it has been bad for a week or two now. I'll check scuttle drains tomorrow.

can i ask why people suggest changing the pollen filter ? how can that help ?

also, i ALWAYS have my dash vents closed, and usually have the direction setting on feet before i get out the car, should i have them open, should i set it on screen ?

seems i cant win with this issue, apart from this the car is spot on but this problem drives me around the bend

Condensation from your breath, and the current cold weather

You travel with the heat on, when you leave the car overnight then you get condensation which freezes

To combat it you drop your windows down for the last minute before locking the car up (whilst driving up your road/drive)

Not much to do with any filters, just science

Try kitchen roll rather than toilet paper... Thirst pockets rule. They saved my bacon today when I had an unfortunate coffee/computer accident.

Mine is also the same... Microfibres ahoy

Damn irritating. Will try not leaving the car warm....

I've also seen dehumidifying penguins...

Also seen on ebay etc...

EDIT: Can't find them for sale now. Apparently they look like toys so have been "suspended". :(

Tuesday - dry sunny day - I drove to work and then parked the car with the windows open slightly - left like that all day - lunchtime the screen was perfectly clear - go-home time, the screen was absolutely soaking, despite the day-long ventilation...

Mines does it to really bad some mornings there is frost on the inside, starting leaving the window the tinyest bit open and its working wonders!
