There a much of a muchness to be honest. Correct me if im wrong, but I believe the BLT builds produced slightly more BHP, torques and came with a shorter 6th gear? Also around the BLT switch time there were some other alterations (rear lights, dash texture, smaller battery etc).

Don't know of any common problems with the ASZ, but the BLT can have some EGR shudder without the modified part fitted from Skoda.

As for tuning, pretty much the same????

If you had the option for go for a BLT build you may as well since the car will be newer. Though im on the ASZ and can't fault it.....

Correct, though I didn't relise ASZ builds went that far.

Don't see what there is to be worried about, just ENJOY!!!

I can't detect any difference between my 2004vRS and my 2007vRS

Sorry - you've largely wrong there.

Power - the BHP figures are the same though emissions figures have changed more than once (hence different people with the same engine pay different road tax!) - engines apparently vary in performance - Autocar's early test car is thought to have been significantly more powerful (0-60 in 7.2 secs) - I suspect many are somewhat higher than 130bhp - people do however suggest the BLT cars may on average have a few more BHP than ASZs but as I've noted the difference is marginal from my limited experience.

The shorter 6th gear change was way before the switch from ASZ to BLT - it occurred around the start of 2004 long before the facelift even. Other changes pre-facelift were pretty minor by comparison - the only one I can think of right now was the vRS badge getting shorter.

The facelift occurred at around September 2004 and was brought in over an extended period. Hence my September 2004 facelift car had the changed rear lights, the deleted rear door lock pins, the changed front grille, (and probably some others that don't immediately come to mind) but not the changed dash texture or (would you believe) the price increase!

The BLT engine came in much later - though no one's actually pinned it down to a date or a chassis number - but I'm thinking it was early 2006.

What I haven't been able to determine is whether the other post-facelift changes occurred at the same time as the BLT change or whether they were before or after the BLT introduction - I'm referring here to the smaller battery (a right pain - why on earth did Skoda reduce the capacity and the physical size of the battery?), the changed rear "FABIA" badge (different font - to make it easier to clean?), the change to the engine cover badge (colour > monochrome), the deletion of the "last drop" feature on the windscreen wipers (now turned off by default), door handles becoming body coloured, different rear brakes (though I haven't found out what the difference is yet) and probably a few other issues I can't immediately recall (I've ignored here the change in the colour of the yellow paint...). The strange thing is how little Skoda exploited the vRS in terms of only having one special edition - and why the wheels stayed the same design throughout.

Don't know of any common problems with the ASZ, but the BLT can have some EGR shudder without the modified part fitted from Skoda.

I've not noticed that on mine - but being second-hand I don't know whether my car's been modified (though when I asked for the warranty history it didn't feature) or whether it only affects some cars (though I'd have thought it would affect all).
