Skoda Yeti 4x4 ESP and ASR

Featured Replies

Hi all,

4 x 4 Skoda Yeti vehicles fitted with ESP (electronic stability program) have incorporated within this system the ASR (anti–slip regulation). According to the Yeti’s user manual, the ESP is not something that can be switched off. Yet, I know that during slippery conditions like snow or gravel, the ASR is something that I would like to switch off.

Is there a way or a button that can be pressed on a 4x4 Yeti to switch off the ASR functionality?

On my existing Fabia, I have had several times to switch the ASR off, especially during severe snow conditions and while driving on untreated (non-gritted roads), or while driving uphill on snowy roads. This has helped me a lot. For these particular instances, and under similar conditions, I would like to be able to switch off the ASR on the Skoda Yeti. Is this something that can be done by pressing a button?

Also, on the Skoda Yeti SE that I have ordered, I have requested to have the “Off Road†button fitted as an option. If this button is pressed, will this deactivate the ASR?

I have yet to read the part of the user manual that deals with the “Off Road†feature, however since I am reading it from A-Z, it will be a short while before I reach this section.

Does anyone know if the ASR feature can be switched off on demand?

Simple answer is yes; there is a TCS deactivation button. Cannot say whether it can be deactivated with off-road mode engaged; never tried it.

The clearest explanation of how the off-road mode works bizarrely can be found in the sales brochure (only bit in there worth reading :giggle: )

With the offroad button you will hardly, if ever need to turn off the ASR - read on McDuffemoticon-0136-giggle.gif

Have to admit, I'm confused on this.

I've got the 1.8TSi manual with an off road button, but the manual suggests that you might have a TCS/ESP button to be able to switch it off should you need to.

I didn't specify TCS/ESP because I saw that the off road button includes ESP, uphill start assist etc.

So does a 4x4 TSi SE auotmatically have non-switchable ESP then, but not TCS as that's only on 2WD models?

I would suggest to the OP that he forgets anything he did with a front wheel drive. He has bought a four wheel drive which is totally different. Don't forget that for the Haldex to work slip has to be sensed, otherwise it won't work.

Perhaps he would like to explain exactly why he wants to turn the ASR off?

TP,

I'm having trouble with your link, could you check it?

Thanks.

 Yup; press the off road button, OP, and forget turning off the ASR, you'll be amazed at what this little car can do!

Or even without the OR button!!

Couldn't agree more with the other comments. The Yeti with 4wd is not like a normal car. Through snow, ice or mud it just works. Press the off road button when it is bad and you are driving slowly but otherwise just point the car forward and go.

I haven't got an ESP/TCS button but have a 4x4, so is it included as standard in the 4x4 but not turnoffable?!

To turn ASR off you need to hold said button for THREE seconds. The light for this will then be permanently illuminated in the dash.

And having deactivated said ASR I managed to do this:

As far as I'm aware ASR is standard across the range. The button is situated below the heating controls and is a picture of the back of a car with some wavy lines underneath. Generally the right hand button (on r/h drive cars.)

Where did you get the symbols for the 007 edition-I'm as sad as you, if not sadder!

I find this works well on greasy roundabouts when the ASR/TCS cuts in too soon for my liking.

Turn of the TSC (as explained by 90000) and enjoy the abilities of the Haldex 4WD to give 'Quattro' results. :giggle:;)

Thanks Johann!

Here in Gelting we are not good with our joking, but I think the Der knopf writings are very good. Maybe you Herr Terfyn would come to my alpine clinic for die behandlung for the sour head.

I'm feeling old today emoticon-0106-crying.gif, even though I've been driving Elsie the Helipad it feels like all day emoticon-0140-rofl.gif, I think that an average of 14mph for almost 3 hours explains it all - driving around South London......not including engine off time.emoticon-0136-giggle.gif
