Has anyone had their brake servo changed

Featured Replies

I seem to have problems with my brakes and they have a squidgy feeling pedal but gets firm towards the bottom.

It has a year old brake master cylinder and has been fully bled.

Skoda suggested it could be a servo, but from what I know that would either be off or on (working not working)

Has anyone had similar issues

Cheers

check your drain holes in the scuttle arent blocked. we had this happen on a audi a4 in work and the brake servo absorded some of the water up

pedal was spongy and im sorry to say servo fixed the problem though.

take it to another garage and let them look at it i find main dealers to be abit arrogant and not very good considering they work on the same makes and models all the time

There is a common failure on the servo vacuum pipe. Check that first, as it tends to split at one (or both) of the 90degree bends, usually at the vacuum pump end (Tandem pump side of cylinder head.) Another possibility is brakes being bled the old fashioned way (pumping pedal to the floor), this unfortunately can reverse the master cylinder seals giving a soft pedal.

To check servo.

Engine off

Deplete all vacuum by pumping brake pedal. The pedal should go rock hard with no sign of creep.

Keep brake pedal pressed, and start engine. Pedal should sink about 3 inches (don't apply too much pedal pressure, as diesel creep will see the pedal almost to the floor.)

Pray it isn't the servo. It's an engine out job on the VRS due to lack of room.

Have you checked the vacuum? Eliminate pump with a vacuum gauge. Any garage can do this for you if you haven't one yourself. Have you looked at the vacuum hose? It doesn't always look split or broken. The design of the hose has changed in recent years with different seals. This solved our problem. As you'll need one anyway with a new servo, it's worth getting one anyway - fingers crossed that's all you need.
