Transmission clunk

Featured Replies

Does anyone else have transmisson backlash/clunking in the lower gears when cold in there 140 4x4? After half an hour or so driving it seems to go away.

Yes I have noticed that in my TSi 1.8 4 x 4, only for about 10 mins or so and then only in the lowers gears. Once it has started to warm up it's fine.

Thanks Pouclee, not just me then.

Me too, CR170 4x4.

And me.

Well not me.

Perhaps at 13k everything has "worn" together?

I have trawled back through every page of the Yeti forum and have found similar, if not identical, issues on pages 26, 58, 61 and 65. Clutch seems to come up.

Does anyone know if the Yeti 4x4 transmission is identical to another VW model?

We have it slightly, but a fabia vrs dsg!

I see this is an old post but I think I have the same problem.

When the engine is cold and I lift off the throttle I get what sounds like a transmission clunk. The same noise when I accelerate. The noise goes away when it warms up.

I have only done 1500 miles and it has just started. In reality I suppose the dealer will want it overnight to check it out, unless one of the knowledgeable guys on this forum can give advice which I can pass on to the dealer!

P.S.  It isn't gear change related.

Never on mine.

(Whispers:)  Not on my 140+DSG 4x4 transmission either.

+2.  Not noticed any noise/clunk.

That's from purchase and till now, at 25000 miles.

I get a transmission clunk when reversing with a good deal of steering lock on, like when reversing out of a parking space. I guessed it was a differential issue with the Haldex because of the large difference in rotating distance between the back and front wheels. I don't remember my pre FL car doing this though.

Thought I would leave it and mention it at the first service

It does seem strange but since the frost we had last week has gone and it was 9c this morning the noise had gone!  Fingers crossed it stays that way.

Sounds similar to what happens with my knees in the winter. :giggle:

I get this clunk also on cold mornings. Not had it since the weather has warmed up. Goes away after a mile or so.

Great cars apart from the odd noises and rattles....
