Chirpy chugging noise at low rev/gearchange

Featured Replies

Hi all my vRS has developed an embarrasing noise when under load from low revs in second onwards, am i relying on the torqey engine too much or is it a sign of something else, noise is best decribed as when a learner pulls away in too high a gear... or if a belt is loose (03 Octy vRS 24K) i have heard two other 1.8t's do the same, both TT's...

happens even when trying to accelerate out of slow 2nd gear corners (first would be too slow) anyone any ideas?

thanks

It sounds identical to mine, it hates trying to take off in second when going too slow. Not too sure about it being Chirpy, but definitely loads of chugging :) .

I remember mentioning this to the dealer when I had my Vrs. I noticed it, not so much in 2nd, as in 1st, going up steep car park slopes, and when I was boarding the Eurotunnel train. They checked for fault codes -there weren't any -so I took a mechanic for a lap of a local multistorey. He reckoned it was just trying to pull too hard with too few revs. (I had a very bad clutch habit).

So I sent back to the way I was taught to pull away -set your revs, then engage the clutch, and I never had the problem again.
