Kumho Tyres

Featured Replies

Just replaced my OEM Continentals after 19000 miles with Kumho.

Must admit as a Kumho fan on various vehicles incuding my MK1 Octy the 225/40 x 18 I have just fitted have not disappointed, they seem quieter and have improved front end grip.

At less than £80.00 per corner you cant really go wrong.

At the risk of being contaversial. You cannot be serious comparing contis to budget kumho tyres? I suspect over a long period with emergency stops and varied weather conditions you would change your mind. They are cheap for a reason. I ran kumho ecsta for a while and they were shocking in the wet.

+1 awful tyres, took them off and sold them on fleabay, put the money towards some f1's, used to slide around something chronic in all but hot dry conditions!

I really rate Kumho tyres

Ive got Kumho Winter tyres. They are very good indeed ......@£46 a corner!!!

I had a set ion a previous car and they outperformed the set of Sport Contacts they replaced.

They were half the price, lasted longer, had good grip in the wet and didnt aquaplane like the Goodyears did!

oh dear, just had 2 new goodyear excellance fitted on the front of my vrs...... :wonder:

I have to agree - Khumo are an under rated tyre - I've had a few sets on the front end of my previous octavia - no problems at all! I have to say they did far better than the 7k miles I've done on my Conti Sport Contact 2s on the Superb - down to the wear markers all ready!

Kumho KU31 gets a good review from the German ADAC (German AA) summer tyre test ("Recommended"). Within a couple of percent of the best premium tyres at half the price. Beat tyres like Bridgestone. Only significant weak spot was lower marks for aquaplaning on long autobahn curves.

Have to agree with this on the ECSTAs...they were terrible in the wet, and not especially good in the dry. Maybe the other Kumhos are better though..I cant comment.

I dont know much about Kumho's but i was going to try Pirelli P-Zero Assymetricals. They seem to get very good reviews. Anyone tried them?

I've always liked the Kumhos I've run in the past - a few sets of KU31s. Good for the money and a decent level of wet/dry/greasy handling IMO.

Tyre choice is so massively subjective, depending on what type of driving you do, how you drive, the routes you use and also what your expectations are. Making forum recommendations often difficult :)

I'd check Tyre Reviews and then see how much you want to spend.

Kuhmos are great especially the KU31 spt hankooks on the other hand are quite honestly dangerous!! personally i'm a fan of Pilot sports or Uniroyal Rainsport 2.

i just put a pair of Pilot Sport 3's on hugely impressed with them, blow the Sport Contact 3's into the weeds for stopping in the wet

As I'd expect them to, for the price per corner :)

very true but the G/F likes to drive the car like its stolen and i need to be in her good books for when she gets her new fabia vrs so i can take that Go-Kart out when i want to!

I am serious about comparing them with Contis its been wet ever since they were fitted and the grip levels have been excellent. Mine is a company car so i dont pay for the tryres and I actually chose to have Kumho.

I had them on my Mk1 for 50000 miles and they always performed highly including various trackday outings in both wet and dry conditions.

I am not knocking the big brand tyres just letting people know that there are cheaper options out there that dont necesssarilly compromise performance.

I've just literally today had my second set of these fitted, at huge expense!

Think they are probably the best tyres I've ever tried on any of my cars. Quiet, grippy in wet and dry, difficult to determine their life expectancy as my suspension geometry is all to **** causing uneven wear....which is my next task.

I've fitted Maxxis MAZ1 to the fronts for £76 a corner. Performance has been absolutely as good as the original Conties and the subsequent Avons.

In the bad spell of snow they really did remarkably well for a summer tyre. Possibly because they were new. they did pull me up a slope in 4" of snow from a standstill that would have been difficult to walk up. A council van got stuck and I, to my own shock and surprise, was able to pull the car up the slope past it. Not easily but it did it.

The life of the tyres is yet to be tested but it'll have to be pretty bad to make them seem bad value.
