Sadley I thourght as much. Il just go for 288mm then as want to stay on 15's.

thats what im going to do, and uprated discs pads and fluid and the 288's will be ample

I regret selling my white pro race 1s now. I have a set of TT alloys for track wheels now and really I should have kept the pro race 1s to use. Much lighter!

Big  I liked those pro race 1's.

I'll be picking some OZ Superturismo's up next weekend, any idea as to what they weigh with tyres

They arnt that light Chris, I used to run on TT in 18's. Check out teh link I posted in this thread further up for weight of them tho.

Looking at the link you provided they weigh 8.9kg each for the 16'' rim

Yeah sounds about right. The really light stuff look horrid and chavey sadley! (And normaly require adaptors)

They are fine until you have to clean the damn things, can't wait to get mine resprayed.
Wheels weigh nothing in comparison to the tyres!

Not necessarily true.

Our winter steels, 6Jx15, weigh 19.8 lbs whereas the winter tyres, Vredestein Snowtrac 3 195/65R15 weigh 17.6 lbs when new, a total of 37.6 lbs.

Our summer alloys, (standard Mk1 Octavia L&R), 6.5Jx16 with Goodyear Optigrip 205/55R16 tyres weigh 42.8 lbs. I haven't had the opportunity to weigh them separately yet.

if your after economey go for 13" x6" wheels!

Agree - narrow smaller wheels are the cheaper way to reduced unsprung weight. However the stock magnesium alloy wheels, 6Jx15, on my other car weigh 13.5 lbs each.

just picked up my new alloys

so now

15" steelies which weigh 39and a half pounds with tyre which is 17.9kilos

and 18" LCR alloys which weigh 44and a half pounds with tyre which is 20.1kilo

15" pro race 1.2s weigh 33pounds with tyre which is 14.9kilos, so thats 3kilos a corner difference should be interesting to see if any affect on economy

Weighed my Stand 16" vrs alloys with continental tyres 205/45 and they weighed 16.4kg.

17" Spiders with Toyo Proxes 205/40 are 19.95kg nearly 16kg difference on all 4 wheels :S

Interesting....

My wheels weigh 17lb each and with tyres on feel like they weigh less than TT wheels with no tyres which are 12kg each.

It's like carrying another spare wheel everywhere!!!

I've not seen it in this thread but........the main reason for having as light a weight wheel/tyre is to reduce the "unsprung" weight on the suspension!!! Everything that is on the other side of the damper/spring is "unsprung" and that includes the brake disc, caliper, pads, wheel, bolts etc!! By making it weight less you improve the reaction of the damper/spring, the steering feel and make it "lighter"...this is why top end supercars/racecars etc have very expensive lightweight wheels, forged alu. calipers, etc!!!

This is why I went for a set of TD Prorace 3 wheels...light and strong!....Comp's were too expensive for me!!! B)

These were a real bargain over here, don't know if they're available in UK:

Motec Nitro 7,5 x 17, 8,0 kg each (personally checked on the scales), go for roughly 170 Euros over here.

Tires are Hankook S1 Evo 215/35 R17 with 8,5 kg each (no one specifies tire weights but they actually have an even bigger impact on rotating mass), so that is 16,5 kg per wheel. Must be near stock since I really can't tell a difference any more after switching, and I'm very sensitive in that respect - that is regardless of handling and cornering which is of course much sharper with the low profile tires.

My old (not so heavy) 18" wheels with worn tires weighed in at almost 21 kg per wheel. My first set of 18" wheels a few years back was even heavier. Performancewise the difference is absolutely dramatic!

I somewhere read that savings in rotating mass equal by rule of thumb weight saving multiplied by 6! So if you save 20 kg on the wheels it's like making your car 120 kg lighter. I can't proof it but in my experience it's a good estimate.

Just weighed my speedline ST2 and they are 16.2kg per wheel. Thats with a 205/40/17 tyre

Not too bad to be honest =)
