Another console bush question

Recommended Posts

OK before you all scream "search" let me just explain, I know the prefered upgrade is seat cupra bushes and powerflex items BUT ive also read about increased harshness in the ride and noise levels with using these bushes.

So what im going to ask is..... I thought I read here that theres a standard bush thats a better design from the original fabia items, that comes off the octavia prehaps?? If this is the case, whats the part number and price for this item as i think our potholed roads as seen off my console bushes......

Thanks for the help

Steve

If no one can help, I can find you the answer on friday when I am back in work.

Where you based, I could even sort you out with a decent price if you are around stockport.

I've just had Cupra bushes fitted to mine today by Unit 18 and I've not noticed any difference in noise level or harshness to be honest. If there is any then it's negligible. I really wouldn't worry about it.

Totally agree with this. Unit 18 did mine funnily enough, over a year ago now, and the Cupra ones are excellent. My standard Fabia ones were well on their way out, and the difference in handling was quite obvious. As far as noise goes, I'm with Schern. Go for it.

Normal bushes

Are these the updated standard items? Cant really tell on the design but they look slightly different........

They certainly look different to the ones that were removed from mine today. With regards to ease of fitment I don't think they'll be much difference if you go for a VAG part. It'll be a case of line them up and then smack them with a hammer until they're fully home (if you fully remove the console). A mate had a bit of a nightmare with a wishbone bolt shearing when he tried to do it himself, I'd rather pay someone to do it and know that they had all the tools to sort it if something did go wrong!

Surely fitting will be the same either way?! I`v had cupra bushes fitted, noticed no difference in noise what so ever. Only difference is they wont need replacing!

Matt

Kind of, but what makes the standard ones a bit easier is they use a nylon outter sleve rather than ally, which should make them a bit slippier to get in with basic tools. Its no means a night and day difference in how easy they are to fit as both will require some effort BUT I dont want to make the car too tight to use everyday. :)

Well if i and various others (including 3 mates) cant tell the difference in ride, i serious doubt it`ll do that! I could understand if you were considering coilovers or something :giggle:

For the improved standard Skoda bushes you will need the part number: 1K0407183E (comes up on system as RUBB MOUNT) £18.96 inc VAT for 2.

I'd also recommend getting 2 of N10640301 (BOLT) as they can seize and be a right PITA to remove and can snap easily.

OK thanks, il keep that in mind. Will start enquiring about it next week once ive checked the car over for any more areas that may need attention.

Hello Stevolution

No-one is gonna shout 'Search' it hasn't worked in a long time!!

I've read tougher bushes rises noise levels, and add, Skoda have upgraded their original standard bushes.

Members say Powerflex, or Cupra bushes are best??, the design operation of front and rear bushes

do conflict with each other.

As to parts numbers, why not ask Skoda Parts dept??

Potholes and speed ramps caused early replacement of rear console bushes, for my car 4 years old in mid 30K miles.

Its a fair point, I did do some breif searching, but theres loads of topics on this subject and none that i scanned thru really gave a definaitive answer hence this topic. While I fully agree with the upgrade to cupra bushes is the probably the best for most, my issue with going to harder bushes is that i dont want to over stiffen the car as its my daily drive and sporty / comfortable enough as it is. couple this with the fact that its got 67K and is a 2004 model, its survived quite well to this point, im guessing its the poor state of roads that have developed over the cold weather reacently is why the console bushes are naffed as my in-laws fiesta has got naffed shocks on the rear and a few friends have had various suspension issues also.

If the revised designed bushes offer a decent ride and can last a good time, then il fit them but with a lot of people saying the cupra bushes arent that much louder, then il have to consider them also, but truthfully, they wont be my first choice on paper, unless i can see the both in person and see the advantages over the revised bush item.....

I went cupra bushes over 40K ago on my Ibiza TDi130 and haven't looked back.

Can't say I noticed any more harshness to the car compared to the OEM bushes but there was a big difference in the feel of the steering.

The cupra bushes made the car much more accurate in the steering and the tyre life improved compared to knackered OEM bushes.

Yup, I totally agree, wife's Polo 1.4SE got this done to it a few years ago with only good results.
