she's broken

Featured Replies

driving my car through traffic today absolutely normally when all of a sudden when stopped in traffic i notcie my wipers slow down a bit, look down at the dash and see two lights - EPC and a little engine

i know have absolutely no power(struggles to get to 60mph) and no turbo noise, it also revs v.v.v.v.v.slowly. 0-30 in first at the moment is probably around 20 seconds. terrible.

is there anything i can do at the moment as skoda can't see me at all until monday!

the local VW garage can see me as soon as i can get there, sadly i called 30 mins after the service dept closed otherwise they would try tonight but they aren't hopefull that their software will work.

either that or a nice mechanic i know has all the software required and lives about 15 miles from and can see me anytime tomorrow, would have seen me tonight but his missus is ill so too busy.

would disconnecting the battery for a while reset the ecu and possibly clear any codes that might be there?

bloody cars

Any noises just before this occurred, Bengie? Checked for any hoses popped off?

You can read fault codes off self diag with any VAS 5051 regardless of it it has a Skoda, SEAT, Audi or VW brand disc as the base disc with be the same or very close.

didn't notice anything funny but i did have my stereo playing Run DMC - walk this way at slightly above engine volume when it went pete tong and as said sat still in traffic so wouldn't expect it to be a hose, but what sort of hose would i be looking for and where?

Turbo hose - most likely would be the big one that comes up from the intercooler front left of the engine compartment as you stand in front of it. Just a thought - could be something completely different of course.

will get a torch and take a look after my dinner.

thanks to my extremely helpfull father who just turned to and said "i don't actually care" and walked off, cheers dad :finger: what a helpfull man he is at times :thumbdwn: . not like i demanded he went out and fix it instantly

 sometimes that kinda thing happens - hope it's nothing too serious at any rate :(

Bengie - you seem to be a bit jinxed with the Octy. Hope you fix it soon

Ah, that'll be it, then

Seriously - I can't help you, but I hope you get it sorted without any problems.

As you've said your wipers slowed down as well as having no power suggests it may be an electrical problem. I had a similar thing happen several years ago on a Vauxhall Cavalier, just before the alternator went poof.

I might be in limp home mode, that is if Skoda's have this mode, I know my mates VW does, It sounds exactly the same as his problems, The ECU detects a fault and shuts off most systems but still allows you to limp home. albeit very very slowly.

i did wonder about limp home mode but have never experienced it before. and bugger me its slow at the moment :(

was it missing?maybe a coilpack?if its not running on all four cylynders and not runnnig full power, mine certainly felt like cack and didn;t want to undo the window so i could listen to the engine.mine just showed engine managment light

  • Author

definitly not missing, sounds fairly smooth when rev'd hanging out the door(stationary) and the coilpacks got down a few months ago for the sparkly new fangled ones. and as said there is no turbo, can hear i spooling very very quietly so i guess i can hear it spinning up but the ecu has the wastegate open constant to cut power. oh to have vag-com

went to see my mechanic friend and he plugged in his little vag doofer this morning and it was 18027(i think) - throttle pedal/cable

cleard codes and went around for a quick jolly and all was puurfect, he also cleard the air-bag codes for me so they all work, only light he couldn't clear was a funny little square thing with a little line coming out of the right hand side, he muttered something about fuel. apparantly a trip to my local shell garage will cure it, or so he says
