forge intake hse fitting and advice

Featured Replies

easy guys and girls

got a feb 2004 octavia vrs and awesome supplied me with the forge silicone intake pipe which seems to be wrong for my car as the pipe has a jubilee clip style fitting and looks like it bolts straight to the turbo???????????? mine however has the cast housing with the push fit intake pipe connection with the clip to hold it in much like late tt and like the passat use on the intercooler??????????????????

so is it wrong kit or does it need modding?????

if it needs modding anyone know how or have a how to??????? :S

also found me a breather leak at front of the head just under the inlet manifold could this explain my flat spot?????? :| lso how do i clean breathers out????? :S

Not a clue about the intake pipe but the breather pipe leak could well be the cause of your flat spot, it was on mine!

you have to take the cast piping off and the new silcone hose jubilee to the turbo , it aint a fun job either very fiddley , and vrs have ko3s btw

Thought it was a ko3s and elbow makes sense as i noticed awesome sell a neuspeed one how's elbow removed?

If I remember rightly its 2 allen key nuts either side of the cast piece , and yeah neuspeed do an uprated one but its better to have a full tip pipe

I'd much rather have an aluminium turbo intake pipe that bolts to the compressor cover, and won't collapse, pop off, degrade or wear. Like the pipe fitted as standard, or one of the aftermarket pipes like the Neuspeed.

Replacing the intake hose between the MAF and TIP with a nice fresh one would appeal to me, and I know Clive got Samco to make one up for him.

But fitting one of these full length turbo intake hoses seems like a backward step to me.

Pipes are better than hoses!

yep i ran an abd intake pipe with custom samco intake much better than just silicone but its all about ££££

Yeah I agree its all about money ? How much was the custom samco ? But for the money of a tip pipe and what it gives u over standard is much better

I agree with Bodge......leave the std TIP on a K03s cos it works really well, even on cars modified to flow much greater than std CFM rates

I know the std TIP may appear to some to be restrictive with its serpentine bend but its not.

Got it now so guess its getting fitted till i can afford the neuspeed elbow , don't the stock pipes sometime collapse on themselves? Or is this bull by the supplier?

The really early 1.8t engines used to have rubber hoses all the way to the turbo which could collapse at high boost. That's why the cast alloy elbow was introduced. BTW, no vRS's had the full rubber intake hose, so the standard pipe will never collapse.

I have the forge silicone tip on mine, and it makes the car surge a little bit when the turbo spools. Almost as if the turbo is spooling quicker than the ecu expects and boost is being cut. Might do some logging with vagcom and find out.

Also, the stock cast part has a flat bit on it to clear a metal coolant (?) pipe at the side of the engine. When you put the silicone pipe on, the coolant pipe just kinks the silicone hose anyway, making it as flat as the stock one.

So if i bought the neuspeed elbow it would catch on something?

Not sure - It is a fair bit bigger than the stock one. I don't know if all 1.8t's have the coolant pipe, or if it's just the vrs.

forge tip is a good mod for those that dont want to spend £300+ on a nuespeed pipe and custom hose.its alot stiffer and is less restrictive than the standard one. i put mine on and it really opened up the top end, from 4500 rpm upwards its like night and day,it keeps pulling hard upto the redline where the std pipe made it feel like i was getting a piggy back off a fat bloke doing a marathon. it sounds better when you start it up to.

Lol at piggy back comment, i'm gonna fit it just because i have it and it looks cool so let you know what i think asap

Wow what can be said other than what a wasted evening, managed to get the elbow off thanks to a couple of friends both porka technicians and one seat trained and one a vw mastertech and erm its rubbish none of the pipes line up to stock the elbow is kink'd at the bottom from the off if i try and put it to stock air box its kink'd at top too, breather and valve sit too close to use properly, one pipe i needed came with a blank in it and my awesome breather pipe was left being too short? And engine cover would never fit, Not good night two hours wasted for nothing..... Anyone used the neuspeed elbow on stock pipe? Or does this elbow crash against water pipe too? Took forge pipe off back in bag as don't think its suitable for stock air box and if i fit it with it feel it'll be just as restrictive as stock pipe so may as well use money else where....

Put it back to standard mate

There's nothing wrong with the std K03's OEM turbo intake, filter box, filter etc etc.......

And dont bother with other mods like, de-finning the air box or "so called" cold air intakes cos they are a waste of time and money.

Just make sure you have a clean OEM filter in the air box :)

Fully back to stock dude still fancy neuspeed elbow but not sure got metal wise c clips to put in the hose in the ridges to stop it collapsing if all goes to plan :) need to get feed back on elbow or should i just spunk money else where on engine if so where?

but it has been proved with dyno before and after that fitting the standard box with a high flow filter and fitting a 3 ich pipe to standard box give good gains in comparison to a completly standard setup ????

imo the best setup is standard airbox ( not definned) with 3 inch intake hose and uprated filter.

also changing the elbow to turbo for the abd item there was no real power gain or torque gain as such but full bosst was seen 200rpm sooner ( which i =n reality is a bit more power but not in peak figures )

but again all comes down to how far and how much money you wanna spend ???

  • Author

What 3 inch hose can you use and where do you run it i'll do this and go from there cheers dude first twenty v and new to the vrs thing so all advice and help is good

mate you must have got the wrong hose, forge do about 3 or 4 different tips for the 1.8t,mine fitted in 20 minutes and everything lined up perfect with no blanks,or short pipes.

but it has been proved with dyno before and after that fitting the standard box with a high flow filter and fitting a 3 ich pipe to standard box give good gains in comparison to a completly standard setup ????

has the filter on its own been dynoed or just in conjunction with the 3 inch pipe? also can you give a link to the 3" pipe mod please?

God knows mate looked on line and they all look different? To mine pics please

I have a forge tip on mine and it fits perfectly, although it was a b*****d to put on. I wouldn't say it made any noticeable difference to the power but the turbo spools up a lot faster than it did with the stock pipe.

but it has been proved with dyno before and after that fitting the standard box with a high flow filter and fitting a 3 ich pipe to standard box give good gains in comparison to a completly standard setup ????

Was the above dyno test conducted on a like for like basis ie a new OEM filter "v" a new high flow filter ?????

Interesting the dyno test comparison's showed "good gains".......perhaps you could quantify what the "good gains" actually were ?????
