Stereo replacement on vRS

Featured Replies

Hi Guys,

I'm sure lots of you have changed your stereo, but how do you remove it completely?

I've removed the head unit, but I can't get the CD-Changer cable out of the back. It's in so tight and with almost no slack, I can only just get my hand around the back.

If anyone has changed the head unit, please advise. Also how do you remove the cubby hole under the Stereo?

I want to lay some RCA leads, a power lead from the battery, A CD Changer cable and new speaker leads also, but this car seems so solidly built around the dash I can't at the moment see how I'm gonna do it. Advice and pics would be really great.

Nemtex.

Undo the screws that hold the carpet surround onto the changer at both ends and then move changer to one side.

Prise the carpet out from by the rear lights and gently move to gain access to rear.

follow the changer cable. it will enter a tube of foam type material, inside here is the connector.

move the foam until you can access the connector and disconnect it. you cant remove the cable completely as its part of the main wiring loom, just dont connect it again at the other end.

To install another changer into the same place you can do what I did.

unbolt the big black bracket from the side of the car and hammer the existing mounts flush, then attach your new changer to the bracket and reinsert into car, install new cable, reinstall carpet.

Thanks Mannyo1,

How did you get your head unit out? It's the changer cable in the back of the head unit I cant remove. I'm gonna leave the orignal changer in the back, I'll probably put a new changer in the cargo netting on the opposite side of the boot.
