Petrol vRS economy

Featured Replies

I've recently been making an effort to drive economically.

Nothing extreme, just sticking to speed limits more and easing off earlier when slowing down.

I filled up the other day, have done a couple of journeys to/from work, and just dropped my housemate off in town.

Trip computer is showing:

The trip was reset when I filled up.

That's a potential 500 miles to a tank.

I think the trip computer is pulling your chain.emoticon-0143-smirk.gif

I tried this once and managed 414 miles from full to fuel light bong and then another 25 miles, so 439 in total. It was the most boring driving of my life. Needless to say I've never manged to top 330 miles from full to fuel light bong since - I just enjoy the power too much !

I have RS for about month or so and trip comp shows me no more than 26mpg in town but mostly about 20 :)

I tried to drive slowly but there is no fun:) maybe because bought it not so long ago ....

Car is a vRS TSi

You will fine this hard to believe but I have seen over 500 miles on our TSI VRS. Driving in the quite time of the day, virtual all Motorway from Worc to Tilbury, forced to drive at 50-55 for loads of the M25 due to the road works I think it was showing 43 mpg hence the 500 mile range when I filled up at Tilbury.

Many say the onboard computer can be optimistic but around 5% or so. Even so it must have been doing 40mpg. Should look at the petrol station receipts to work it out manually but it certainly could do the 300 mile round trip to Essex and back without fuel light coming on and therefore have at least 80 miles left. Impressed with the EA888 engine in the petrol VRS and 1.8 TSI (DSG) which are 175 and 155 grams/CO2 which is hugely impressive how that has improved over the last few years.

Glad i bought the CR then :giggle:

I have to try *very* hard to get over 40mpg on a long trip on the trip computer, say 38-39mpg in the real world. With more typical M-Way driving it sits at about 35mpg, and cities are about 20mpg.

Still, for cars that are comparable fun, that isn't bad! Try getting that in a Focus ST five pot.

Mind you, I've seen the trip computer dip to 6mpg when (legally) accelerating very hard uphill...

Glad that i havent got DPF :) i used to have two vRS in diesel , one was pd and one cr and tbh difference between this tsi is about 10mpg with the same style of driving . Road tax £99 per six months in tsi ... 79 or sth in diesel ... But ... Much better fun in petrol engine :)

So you only got 36mpg in the diesels?! I never get less than 42mpg on short runs otherwise 50-52mpg all day long...

Done 11k now and the DPF hasn't caused any issues as i do motorway driving most of the time...

Of course i could get more than 40 but .... Within the limit etc , no more than 3k revs on the clock ... The truth is that if u wanna drive 'normally' then tdi is for you as it will give you really good mpg .

I can get more than 40mpg brim to brim at times but I think more than 43mpg average would be very hard to do without going to ridiculous extremes. Motorway economy can be outstanding when traffic is slow, say at 50 or 60 mph. Stop/start traffic is a disaster though.

My average is 35mpg but that is because I have a lovely country road to nip down on my 15 mile normal office journey

My Focus seen singles figures sometime but could easily get 30+ MPG but not all the time the engine noise is amazing!

30+ ? Fella at work is averaging 22-24mpg in his ST and he admits that he is staying off the loud pedal because it absolutely drinks the stuff and is costing him a fortune !

Whoa! Is this just for the new TSIs? My 06 TFSI costs me £136 for 6months!

Yes I can get very economy from petrol Vrs but there isn't much point in buying the vrs unless you are going to "enjoy" it. Having said that it is probably sensible to think about driving more smoothly, judging braking and gear choice for economy and better driving to help save it for the more exuberant drives. I actually used to get worse economy from Ocatvia 2.0 petrol auto and have been pleasantly surprised getting near 40 mpg on motorway journeys "near" the national speed limit.

If my new TSI gives around 35mpg average when I get it I will be very happy, it is a performance car after all!
