Golf R or Scirocco R.....

Featured Replies

I like the look of the scirocco but like the fact that the Golf is 4 wheel drive is swaying me after the recent weather.

Only option I'd add is full leather.

The Golf GTI needs too much money on extra's to bring it up to spec( alloys, touch radio leather etc )

The golf in 5 door mode is more practical but Scirocco is very stylish.

What do you think?

Not sure on the Evo but working at a Subaru dealer I'd go for the VW any day even at the premium, different league.

I think there overpriced TBH mate. Nice motors and if you can afford it go for it.

There are better motors to be for the money though. Subaru and Evo X are a better buy IMO.

Each to their own though pal!

It will be leased mate, just started to look again.

Evo and Scooby lease are really expensive.

Plus fuel bills.

Any other cars with big power low cost on lease you can think of would be appreciated.

Golf R and Scirroco about £400 to £500 on business lease over 3 years.

Golf for the 4wd and rarity every time.

Evo X is nothing like it's predecessors and the Impreza doesn't match the quality of the VW and is dire on fuel.

If I could afford it ,it would be the Golf.

More practical of the two, although the Scirroco looks great.

I have a 14 month old Mk VI Golf GTD which replaced a Mk I Fabis Vrs, even though the Golf was an expensive purchase it is a very high quality product which I am very pleased with. I would say go with the Golf R I think you will also be very pleased.

I would opt for the Golf every time, I can't get on with the Scirocco's looks at all emoticon-0149-no.gif

Just looked at Scirocco Gt 210 BHP, I could lease for £250 a month, add leather for £10 a month.

0 to 60 6.9seconds

R version 0 to 60 6.0 seconds.

Am I missing something or is GT a lot better option price wise AND performance wise?

I'd save a bit of money and go for the Audi S3

Can you actually get hold of either of the 'R' cars easily now?

A friend of mine was after a Scirocco R about a year(?) ago but had to settle for a GT as the dealers couldn't get hold of any R's for about 6 months.

The Scirocco GT is a really nice car BTW.

I don't like the appreance of either, but the Golf is the better less bad looking or the two IMO.

Based on that, I have no experience of either!

Rocco for looks, but has to be the Golf for practicality!

When the vRS goes, it will probably be replaced by a Scirocco! :smirk:

How about a Jaguar XF :)? Random I know.

Just do a search on this forum about winter tyres. You will see that a 2wd drive car on winter rubber is infinitely more capable in snow, ice and any roads (dry or wet) in temperatures below 7 degrees than a 4x4 on summer rubber. So your 4 wheel drive Golf will be as useless as a Range Rover on summer tyres. Thus go for the car you like the look of! BOTH will need winter rubber to have any chance of driving in snow on the wide summer rubber bands they come with.

Prefer the understated look of the Golf. Scirocco looks great until you get to the arse - too big!

I like both cars, but the 4wd system would be the decider that made me go for the Golf... more tuning possibilities as there is only so much you can reasonably put through the front. Otherwise, Jaguar XF (no reply to previous post).

Well you not said if you like it or not yet...

Yes I do!

the jags got a vote from me!!!

Jaguar XF ftw :).

On a side note, anyone got some real world MPG figures for the 2.0 TSI tuned to Golf R / Audi S3 level? Book says 31mpg, assuming this is optimistic?

If book says 31 read 21 if you have a heavy right foot!
