Fabia VRS ICE - Advice Please

Featured Replies

Hello all,

Looking for some advice/confirmation on getting a half decent ICE set up in my Fabia VRS.

I currently have the standard front speakers, 6 x 9's in the parcel shelf and a cheap 600W sub woofer and Amp in the boot.

The sounds not been the best for some time and im thinking its now wise to get a more grown up set of speakers.

Im more than happy with my head unit but from what ive read on here im looking at pulling everything out, disabling the rear tweeters behind my head and replacing with some good components with seperate tweeters.

So, questions....If i get said components will i need a subwoofer in the boot? Am i doing the right thing disconnecting the rear tweeters? Will the new component speakers need amplifying and if so by what power output?

If anybody could offer me experiences/advice id be very happy, also if anyone can point me in the direction of where to buy good equipment?

Thanks in advance everyone.

Dont need to go overboard for a decent sound, in my old fabia vrs, i had a stealth shelf parcel shelf with a pair of Kicker 6x9s and a kicker amp, Along with an alpine head unit and decent wiring kit, i disconected the standard rear speakers and faded the sound to the rear slightly, i was amazed by the kickers, when the sound was cranked up they were both crystal clear and had a really punchy bass!! alot of it has to do with how u set the amp up and the headunit! back in my boyracers days i also had a kicker sub that would rattle youre eyeballs haha

I've heard Caraudiosecurity is a good place to get ice from :). As for disabling tweeters, I'd just replace them for some better quality units. Most expensive tweeters I've seen cost £40 for a pair, so not too big a punch in comparison to other parts of the system.

For the Fabia, replace the headunit with a branded aftermarket one, isolate the rear tweeters and soundproof the front doors. Fitting aftermarket speakers to the front doors will in general not improve on the sound quality unless you begin looking at amplification from an external amplifier.

As to 6x9 in the rear shelf with a sub in the boot, well just consider shared air volumes, the sub will be causing the 6x9 to move in excess of whats requried. Either use the 6x9 as a source of bass or use a sub and amp with the front speakers only.

For a more grown up setup go with a decent set of front components (check mounting depth for fabia) a subwoofer and a 4ch amp that can be bridged (combine 2ch to 1). 2ch of the amp will be used to drive the component speakers in the front of the car and the other 2 will be bridged to run the sub woofer (mono). To run a subwoofer you should use a low pass crossover (LP X-over) this eliminates high frequencies, for the front speakers you can use a high pass cross over (HP X-over) however this is not so essential. X-overs are a complex subject but the basics are as mentioned.

Drop me a PM if you need any more help

 Makes sense to upgrade the speakers in front of your ears first.
