trading a car in

Featured Replies

hi all,

after thinking about changing my car i was wondering what would be the best way forward.

should or do i have to tell them its been remapped?

if i do need to tell them will i get a lower price for my car? will they still take it?

would it be a better idea to get the car put back to standard?

thanks all

If you are taking it to a normal mainstream garage then they probably won't like remapped cars.

They will be harder to sell and they will be worried about warranty claims , so I'd suggest not mentioning it , or getting it put back to standard.

If on the other hand you are trading it in at a performance car specialst then leave it as is.

You could always phone up anonymously and ask them

i think it would be a main audi dealer. just not sure how they view remaps, i was thinking along the same lines as you

If its a main Audi dealer he will almost certainly push it through the trade as he wont want a Skoda on the forecourt so I suggest unless asked you say nothing, if he asks & isnt happy then offer to put it back to std. You are not obliged to tell him

Ive just traded in my remapped furby vrs, the first dealer was not happy the car was not standard and said it was worth

Perhaps it's just my way of thinking, but if you don't declare it aren't you commiting a form of fraud?

I'd also wonder about the next owner who could find his insurance invalid because he didn't declare the modifications he didn't know about.

Perhaps it's just me being overly cautious.

I was thinking the same as Neil

Even if the car has to be put back to standard it will still have been modified and so components will have been subject to more abuse. Trouble is if you tell the dealer they will take money off and then return the car to standard anyway and pass it on... :(

Perhaps you could sell it privately or to a dealer who would be happy taking a modified car.

At the end of the day I would want to know what I was getting and it was for that reason I got a new one - so at least I'll know how its been driven and what has been done to it.

I believe TaviaRS got a rather good price for his RS in it's modified state apart from the suspension and exhaust, which were returned to standard.

Alos you have to remember that his had 100k+ miles.

i guess ill need to test the water with the dealer, maybe a phone call.

then i need to find out a good price. its only done 24k so should be decent price i would imagine

I agree entirely - I want to know exactly what I'm buying and if it's not standard, a list of mods that are on it so my insurance is valid.

yea i dont think i would be able to trade it in without telling them if it was still mapped, it does seem wrong

It was my (perhaps incorrect) understanding that if you sell a car and knowingly hold back information that would affect price, warranty, saleability etc. etc. then this is a serious no-no.

Don't know the law but this would seem common-sense?

 snobby dealers eh?!

Would suggest you tell to avoid potential claim against you in the future .Dealer might not care.As said above it will just be shipped off anyway(can imagine the the Audi reps"must resist touching it or buying it myself. It's a skoda.Must resist" :D )
