Featured Replies

managed to get the tank a bit empty last night it took 43 litres to fill lol to say i was ****ting my self was an understatement york to ayr and back + bit of running around only managed 460 ish miles to the tank bah humbug

Not done it myself, but there have been stories on here of up to 100 miles with the display reading 0 miles left in the tank a la Jeremy Clarkson in the Audi A8

I've done about 10 miles after 0 (octy tdi) on the trip computer and that was a 49 litre fill up , so probably about another 10 to 15 miles before coming to a halt.

Ive had 56.5l in the tank.... and have done 46 miles with the trip pooter reading 0 miles... and total milage over a tank was 654miles

that was just a standard fill up i did no expansion tank or what ever i did must admit was very nervous in the last 10 miles or so lol i was coasting down hils etc lol all because i didnt want to pay 90p a litre lol

Lowest I've run mine was back in July on a Sunday evening when I decided to brave the 130 mile trip back from Brum to Southampton as the trip computer said I had 160 miles left on the tank.

As the miles came off, my driving got more granny-like, especially when the fuel warning buzzer went off around Newbury! I got to where the road signs were telling me it was 15 miles to home with 10 miles left on the computer just as I was approaching a 2 miles tailback of stationary cars. Decided to take a detour off the A34 through a village in my quest for a petrol station, but after getting hopelessly lost and then retracing my steps found that the only one near the village was shut, so I somehow made my way back to the A34 at the front of the tailback and with 5 less miles of diesel!

Luckily there was a services a couple of miles further down the A34 and I ended up pulling in their, still with 5 miles remaining on the computer, but the car took 43.08 litres and I'd covered 470 miles! Was 82.9p a litre though, in a time when we were paying 78.9p everywhere else!

I reckon those last 2 litres could probably have got me another 20 miles, but I didn't want to make an AA man's evening by risking it ;)

Using my Furby Vrs expansion tank the other day, I managed to get 50.09 litres in with the trip comp saying I still had 25 miles left.

i have noticed the consumption really suffer when using the expansion tank it seems to have a hard time carying around an extra 2 gallons

Some of you guys are brave. I was seriously crapping myself yesterday when the trip computer was showing 25 miles left and the needle was on the bottom, I really didnt know how much to trust the trip computer...

Have driven the octy about 10 miles with the computer on zero, all because I was in the middle of knowhere and hadnt passed a garage for miles.

well id say when it first hits 0 you have about 4-5 litres left maybe

According to my reckoning, the trip computer bears no relevance to miles left, given that I do 14 mpg town driving :( Short of running out completely, how on earth can one otherwise tell what's left in the tank?

erm when you fill it up note how much you put in lol

Is it dangerous filling the expansion tank too? I guess it's there for a reason.... :(

Tell me if I'm being old before my time...

Drove 15 miles in my Octy RS with the trip computer showing 0 - totally jobbying myself!

Put in 56 litres (in a 55l tank!) with no venting. Must have been running on the proverbial vapours.

I've also often wondered about this practice. I have images of the tank collapsing in on itself, leaving you with a flattened tank capable of holding just 2 gallons in total

any reason why you think just 2 gallons lol or do you just like the number :P

OK, half a pint

Not a good idea to let it go too low. I have always went to about 30-50 miles left, but on friday i had to get my fuel filter changed, because it was stinking. Only 20k on clock, but apparently someone had been using dirty diesel (previous to55er, erm sorry owner).

Think i have learned my lesson :o

I use the expansion tank all the time, but ONLY when I'm starting a journey. Never park with it just filled. If the temperature increases expect smelly slippery stuff under the car in the morning !!

Only dared take my Furby down to 5 miles to go !!
