Columbus or Other option? Sat-Nav

Featured Replies

Hopefully I'm soon ordering a new Octy vRS.

I like the Columbus, but I refuse to pay the price Skoda want to have one factory fitted.

So my vehicle will be arriving with the bog-standard Bolero.

Now I know I'll miss having sat-nav.

I know I could use a sat-nav device or even my phone.

But what I like about the Columbus is that it's neat and tidy, always there, always charged etc.

Is my best option to simply buy myself a Columbus and fit that to my new Octy?

Or are there any other options out there?

Something that also has sat-nav built in?

I believe there is something by Kenwood - is this a good alternative, better alternative?

Cheers.

Have columbus myself. Nothing beats it in usability.

It's only beaten on paper (specs)

There is a Kenwood VW compatible model but that isn't cheap (£1k) and I don't think it has the inbuilt hard drive that the Columbus has. I have a Columbus and whilst it isn't perfect in comparison to other available units (postcode and speed cameras are harder to get on) it's perfect for my needs and took me round Europe last year without a hitch.

The Kenwood option is good, and has a Parrot bluetooth handsfree and Garmin sat nav built in, but you'll be very limited as to how much it will integrate with the car. Maxidot wont display the navigation directions etc.
