Superb Elagance

Hello folks. I am thinking of a Superb Elegance diesel.

What extras would you recommend. I was thinking of the uprated sound system, 18" wheels and the tinted glass in the back.

Has anyone purchased the 1.6TDI. It is 2.5k euros cheaper than the 2.0 140 BHP. Is it worth the saving????

I would love a pano roof but its not available. Anyone have any pics of the facelift model????

Nice site BTW..

For the price, I'd recommend heated washer jets and the auto dimming rear view mirror (especially as this also adds dimming exterior mirrors in that price too)

This seems to be country specific - my MY11 uk spec Elegance with added auto dimming rear view mirror does not have dimming door mirrors.

I am beginning to wish i had bought the 1.8tsi the fuel consumption is almost the same and when you take in the price of petrol its a better deal. And if you buy new no vat even better food for thought i think

Hmm, interesting point, although there are a few threads on here which I'm sure include UK cars with auto dimming side mirrors.

I have to have a diesel!!!. The heated jets and auto lights all come standard here including park assist sat nav and all that!!

Hello from another Corkie - corkie

I have not driven a car on 18s, but I would watch the ride on our far from perfect roads.

I did not think heated washer jets cam with the cars in Ireland, but could be wrong.I got the heated windscreen on mine and it was a god send during the recent cold spell  .

Depends how much you are into your sounds if the upgraded system is for you but have seen a few say it was a waste of money. The darker glass looks great tho.

Auto dimming mirrors standard on my last yr car, have they been moved to options now?

I also went for the silver finish rather than the wood in the cabin, think it lifts things a bit in a car with the dark interior, if you going for the cream leather then the wood might be best. What colour combo you thinking of going for?

For Bill2 - I had the 1.8 in an Octy, and there is no way it is almost as economical, as my 170 TDi, never mind one of the less powerful diesels, what they say the car will do and what it does are far from the same thing.

I borrowed a Superb Estate with 18" wheels for three days. It rode the typical roads in England far better than my Saab 93 with 17" wheels. Personally I think the 18's are matched perfectly to the suspension on the Superb. Some reviews have even stated that the set up is perfect for the UK. I'd definitely suggest you try them if you're unsure.

These items come as standard on the elegance model sold in rep. of ireland.

Front parking sensors, heated windscreen for the winter and for the summer months, a solar sunroof to keep the air fans running and help keep the interior cool when parked up. Heated washer jets and auto dimming rear view mirror are also good to have but some say that they are standard over there, extras in the UK.

Most people who have had the uprated sound system installed say that it is not worth the money as the door cards cannot handle the extra bass and you get rattles and vibrations as a result meaning that you can't use the extra sound quality if bass is what you are after.

Looking at Skoda.ie, it appears as standard you get; Park Assist (£500 option in UK) heated rear seats (£200 option in UK) heated washers (£35 option in UK) auto dimming external mirrors (not available in UK)

But, you get 17 rather than 18" wheels, no disc for the sat-nav (whoever came up with that?!)

You pay, if converted into £'s more. My car set me back around £26,000 inc options (below) - the same car, in €37,695, equates to around £31,600.

Information from Skoda.ie

But, going back to your original question!

Heated screen - Excellent!

Sunset Glass - Looks good

MDI - my 64gb iPad connects no problem, altho i needed an extension lead, as it wont fit into the "Jumbo Box"

Matts - goes without saying

i also added the Park Assist (which is standard on your car) and the heated washers (also standard in ie)

Just so there's no misunderstanding or misinterpretation of this point, the solar sunroof does indeed run the fans, but these will only circulate the ambient air, not cooled air (because - of course - the aircon is not operating). HTH :)

Heated screen - Excellent! +1

Sunset Glass - Looks good +1

MDI - my 64gb iPad connects no problem, altho i needed an extension lead, as it wont fit into the "Jumbo Box" The HDD & SD card is more than adequate for my needs

Matts - goes without saying NOOOOO!!! buy some decent aftermarket mats - some that are made from decent quality carpet, unlike the very poor quality (for the £55 cost) you get from the factory (just like the actual 'carpet' is not carpet, but rather like a heany duty felt  ) this is the only option I regret getting.

Electric tailgate is good if like me you in and out the boot often

Variable boot floor will make the loading area flat

Wood decor - looks better than the silver IMO, but this is however a very 'Marmite' option

Spare wheel (and toolkit) - essential IMO

i also added the Park Assist (which is standard on your car) and the heated washers (also standard in ie) +1

Al.

I forgot about the Spare! - i've got one of them also! 100% a great idea!

Variable boot floor - good idea, but i would have lost a few inches of height in the boot - depends what your carrying, each inch can count! ;)

Wood decor - yack! (But i'm still in my 20's and plastic wood dont appeal) each to their own - same with Rosso Brunell Colour, urr...

Matts - i dont mind my matts, but i do 100% get where your coming from!

Al.

Hill-hold is def worth having. Had it on last 2 cars and love it.

By the time you get the car it will be too expensive to fill it up the way it's going!

I still like the electric tailgate and 4x4.

Phil

Hi Corkie,

Go for the 170hp Elegance. You wont be sorry. The tax is the same as the 140hp and the car is only 3.5k dearer than the greenline.

I had a 140hp octy for a few days and it robbed me compared to the superb,€40 Kilkenny to Dublin return and @ €25 in the Superb. The comfort is second to none, the car drives itself and will tow anything. The only extras I would add would be a heated screen and sunset glass and if you could stretch DSG although I havent driven a DSG yot but the next car will be auto or GSG,depending on the make but so far, 100K KM

of hassle free motoring I wouldnt change from Skoda.

Cheers. The wife dont like the DSG.. I think I will get the 18" wheels as I dont like the normal ones. The sunset glass is nice. Fuel economy aint a issue as its paid for. They are a fine car compared to the Passat.
