How much smoke is too much?

Featured Replies

Yip, you guessed it, I got a smokey furby. It is really bad, I have not seen one like it. Spits out proper amounts of smoke if I boot it and still spits out a fair amount when just pootling about.

any susgestions/comments? I could not find anything by seraching . . .

The amount of smoke my car belched out when it had the fuelling issue was BAD! But that was under no boost, and it just wasn't burning any of the fuel in the engine I think, and chucking it out the exhaust unburnt.

Anything less is normal. ;)

yeah, mine seems to be worst off boost too. 1500-2000 then as it revs though to 2500 it clears up. Under heavy load it smokes regardless, like full whack in 6th *on private roads* I can see smog behind me . . .

Del,

you been mapped yet? If so have a chat with Michael.

If not what around and someone will have an answer but I generally thought soot was due to overfuelling.

If it's not been mapped, take it to the dealer.

If it's been mapped, talk to the mapper.

If you want to take advantage, speak to someone like galv who could sort you out with a NOS kit that would get rid of that... :D

lol!

Cheers guys.

Still not sure how many petrol theories apply to oil burners, looks like overfuelling to me. It is a sotty cloud, not a bluey one (from what I can tell from the mirror!)

Due to a "change in personal circumstance" a map is well out of the window now anyhow. . .

deal it is I guess!

Cheers one and all!

Are you sure its not just the acumulation of soot being expelled under load?

Most diesels will show this at night.

hmmmm, it is worse at night, visible in other cars headlights . . . . the smog plot thickens!

my nova makes smog too, if rev'd when first strated(i.e. cold) it smokes like mad, will get pics/video when daylgiht resumes. lots of smoke when it happens

If its only visible at night then I would suggest its the normal soot deposits blowing out from the exhaust. If however its black smoke visible in daylight, then thats a different problem and on a new car like that shouldnt really be happening.
