EGR Valve Removed & Cleaned . . . . Strange Vibration Started **Problem Fixed**

Featured Replies

Right guys i'll start from the beginning, over the the weekend I decided to remove my EGR valve and various intercooler pipes to clean them all, I had some trouble removing the EGR valve from the pipe that connects to the exhaust manifold so I decided to remove the air intake pipe on the passenger side of the engine bay. This gave me good access to the bottom end of the pipe that connects the EGR valve to the exhaust manifold. I seperated the pipe from the manifold and removed the EGR valve with said pipe attached and then dissassembled it all on the bench.

After cleaning all the parts etc I rebuilt everything, I went out a drive to make sure everything was okay, everything seemed fine until I noticed a loud metallic vibration noise coming from the passenger side, it only happens below 2000 rpm, if I apply the accelerator it cuts out, take the foot off and its back.

It wasn't there before I removed the EGR valve etc though I cant imagine how they could be related, I had a look about the engine bay and apart from the airbox seeming a little loose (enough that it might be vibrating against the ecu) there was nothing that jumped out at me. I also switched off the headunit to check it wasn't a speaker.

Does anyone have any idea's or things I could check when I get home, at a bit of a loss with this one.

Cheers

Check whether the gear change cables have come out of their clips where they clip to the bottom of the bulkhead, they rattle around on the exhaust shield, well mine did, I could not get them back into the clips and ended up using a nylon tie to hold them together.

Cheers mate will do

If the airbox is loose it will make a hell of a racket. Make sure it is fixed at the rear through the slide in grommet, and that the grommet is still there! Kinda hard to explain how the airbox is mounted, but it clips in at the back.

Thanks MoggyTech I think it must be the airbox, i'm really hoping i've not lost the grommet now!

Problem fixed, MoggyTech was right, the grommet at the back of the airbox had come off.

Thanks again
