My keys broken!

Featured Replies

My key decided to do a runner today, i flipped it up and well the key part came out. how much is it for a new fob or can i swap it over to another fob sumhow alog with the chip for my central locking? any ideas what i should do

Take it to a key maker and see if they can re-attach the key. Will be much cheaper than buying a new key I would have thought.

I sat on my key and snapped it. I went to my local locksmith who ran up a new key for a few ££'s then I blu-taked the chip to the new key.

It took a bit of fiddling to get the position of the chip right, but it is still working 6 months later.

At some point I must get the araldite out and make a permanent fix for the chip.

Obviously this means the remote no longer works, although I do have plans to re-house it and chuck it on the keyring.

the metal casing around the flip key the top has sheared off bit rubbish reali

Hi

Go on ebay you can get a two button or three button remote key for £9.99 it has a new blank key blade that can be cut from your original and you can swap over the internals from your old key and have a nice brand new one. To get the flip to work on the spring there is a guide for a VW key on the web. From memory you have to turn the blade 1 and half times anti clockwise before cliping the top part back together. Here is the link http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Skoda-flip-three-3-button-remote-fob-blank-key-HAA-/330526237976?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item4cf4e62518

That's a very good price for a new 3-button key

Wonder where they've got a stock of those from at that price!

Ahh, that explains it!

There is no transponder or remote it is just an empty shell

No transponder is usual as you need to swap that over, but the remote unit I would expect to see in a replacement key! Still, if the only thing that's broken is the key blade part, then it would be fine :)

Hi

Sorry I did not make it clear its just the outer casing and a blank blade also comes with two small skoda badges for the back as thats where the screw is to replace the blade and transponder. I rebuilt my key and just reused the part the transponed was in and the remote pcb board. Its a cheap way to give you a brand new looking key with new buttons and thats what I thought the original poster wanted to do rebuild his key cheaply as the blank blade can be cut at any locksmith. Just was trying to help.

No problem at all. Just thought I'd make it clear what you got for your £10 that's all :)

As if it was a key complete with the remote control function, I'd probably have picked it up myself as another spare!

But as you say, it's a good option to go for, if you have a working remote part of your old key to swap over.

Cheers,

Steve

can u put a 2 button key in a 3 button?

Think you can. IIRC the overall key 'chassis' size is the same.

you'll struggle to get the transponder out of the old key cos there normally glued in, are you sure its snapped cos theres a pin that holds them in so if it looks like this key.gif then you just need to fit it back in

There is a guide to swapping the transponders out, as I did it with a Seat key when I had one, as Ibizas of the same age as a Fabia don't have flip keys! And they say that Skoda's the budget end of VAG....

Will see if I can find the guide. You basically need to be slow and patient with a small palette/craft knife, in order to free the transponder without damage.

Hi

You can get the two button model from the same ebay supplier

It can be removed. Care is required obviously, but it's possible.

is it possible to swap the bottom of the key to a new top part? and then to remove the pin on the flicker and insert the key for the blank?

My 08 Mitsi was a P.O.P. to get out and swap into a new key

Hi,

When I rebuilt my key with the blank from ebay I used the top front bit with the transponder in as its just the plastic front and then put my old blade in and screwed it back together as I said earlier you have to put it back together a set way to ensure the spring works for the flip to function. and you might as well put your battery and pcb board from the bottom half into the new one as it will give you new buttons and the appearance of a new key. I found instructions on a vw forum Carefully put the two halves together, but remember to turn the top half Anti-clockwise twice before clipping in place, or your key will not flip out.

Hi if you want to talk to me about how I did my key then you can call me on 07773695908 anytime.
